  • Apple Inc. valuation now more than $134 billion greater than Alphabet's Google

"However, more attention was directed to the idea that Apple earns most of its profits from a single family of products (iPhones) than the fact that virtually all of Google's profits come from surveillance based advertising. That's a market that is not only facing strong competition from players including Facebook, but is also at risk from ad blocking and a general user dissatisfaction with being tracked and sold to advertisers."

I've been saying this for years. To expand, Apple makes most of its revenue by selling products people want (iPhones). Google makes most of its revenue off something people dislike (ads).

That Google is rewarded for this is ming boggling.

Why wouldn't you reward a company for that. They are getting their product in front of people whether they like it or not. There's not much of a choice. Like driving down the highway and seeing billboards.

If people have a choice then they can choose no just as easily as choosing yes. So there's a lot of volatility in those markets. Just look what has happened over the past 10 years with Palm, Balckberry, Microsoft, and the the once king, Nokia. There are fears that this could happen to Apple, by people who don't understand that what Apple achieved is the pinnacle of handheld computing.

  • Apple Park's campus auditorium named 'Steve Jobs Theater,' opens later in year

Steve Jobs deserves more than his name on auditorium. If I was Tim Cook, I would have propose whole campus to his name because he is the who lead, saved Apple from the extinction to today's great company we admire.
While I admire Steve Jobs tremendously I feel this is adequate recognition. No man is more important than the company as a whole so feel it would be inappropriate to overshadow the company with his name.

Agreed. While Steve Jops had the vision and charisma (appropriate that the theater be named after him) it was all the other talented people at Apple that made the vision a reality.

  • Apple's WWDC 2017 returns to San Jose June 5-9, registration begins March 27

"liberal arts" & "diverse perspectives" in one sentence. What about the conservative arts? :)

Which would go hand-in-hand with "singular perspective".

Wireless charging is a huge, big, waste of time, IMO.

But I'll trust Tim Cook's judgement in the end.

I mean, how much effort is it to plug my iPhone? 1 second?
What if the iPhone X doesn't have any ports? Why would you need a port if you can wirelessly charge it? I'm tell ya people this is coming soon...as soon as Apple gets wireless charging down, that lighting port will be a thing of the past. You can sync it wirelessly, connect bluetooth devices to it (wirelessly)such as EarPods and now charging wirelessly. No need for a lightning port anymore. I know this will piss people off just like the headphone jack, but people will get over it just like they did with the headphone jack missing.

Of course it'll have a Lightning port. You will still need to charge it via a cable when you're not around a wireless charging transmitter.

  • Apple Pay now accepted by 36% of US merchants, is most common mobile payment platform

My favorite thing is going into a store and paying with my samsung gear S3, and having the cashier go "oh we dont do the apple pay thing" and then it goes BEEEP, and a receipt spits out and they are like huh??? Samsung pays works EVERYWHERE, so amazing to not have to carry a wallet ever or worry about whether a place accepts samsung pay or not. I am sure apple will get there eventually, in a few years......
I'm curious: are you saying that there are contactless NFC terminals that will take Samsung pays, but not Apple Pay? I too have had the experience where the clerk doesn't know what they take or how it works, yet I complete the transaction from my Apple Watch and Apple Pay.

No. Samsung uses a technology that can wirelessly transmit credit information directly to the reader, just as if you've swiped your card.

This poster is obviously completely unaware the main reason for using something like Apple Pay is for security and privacy. Samsung's technology is actually less secure than swiping your card, because the data that is normally stored on the back of your card is being transmitted. So someone could pick up the info without the consumer even realizing that their CC has just been stolen.
