  • Apple continues weekly update cycle with iOS 11.0.2, containing iPhone 8 call crackling fi...

Sometimes these releases get confusing. So, I’ve got 11.1 beta. The beta release doesn’t mention these fixes, as far as I’ve seen. But this is out after 11.1 came out. So does the 11.1 beta contain these fixes, or not?

    You're getting beta. Totally different.

Basically, how versioning works is this: let's suppose there is a software with 11.3.2 version. The "2" would be an update to fix bugs without affecting backward compatibility. The "3" is usually improvements on existing issues without affecting compatibility. The "11" is a major version that can break compatibility in favor of new features. It's like this: [major].[minor].[fixes]. That's usually for production releases.

When you get developer (beta) version, it follows a different version although they increment upon fixes and features.

What's odd is that they're not showing iOS features but rather features of third party apps. Like the handwriting conversion is shown with GoodNotes app, not the Notes app.

My problem with FaceID is that it further degrades our individual privacy and makes us more vulnerable to both over-officious government and predatory marketing.

TouchID is my physical finger on this phone.  FaceID is my face on a potentially global database.  Coming from the UK, one of the most surveilled societies in the western world, I find this worrying.

I'm not interested in being reduced to a target for near-field / face-recognition ads or constant surveilance.

An old fart?  For sure - I actually like being an individual.
When a FaceID or TouchID is taken, it is saved into a set of complex numbers which cannot be reverse engineered at all. It has NO idea what you look like or what your fingerprint looks like. It is mathematically impossible. When it gets your picture of your face again, it converts the same thing to a set of hashes and compares them against previously hashed information and decides if it's close enough that it can safely unlock for you.

  • Apple to be exclusive retailer of 'Red Raven' camera kit

I am surprised Apple will be the exclusive seller of Red Raven. Red cameras produce incredible cinematic quality videos and a lot of major movies are shot with Red. Here are a list of movies made with Red: http://www.red.com/shot-on-red/cinema

  • Apple buys sleep tracking firm Beddit

I have Beddit and it works for a while and it starts to lose its efficiency. I like that it tracks respiration and heartbeat rate.
