  • 'Foundation' is beautiful, lavish, and boring say reviews

We can understand how a movie version will never be able to match the scope of the books.
As a lifetime sci-fi fan, I found the imagery amazing, and can excuse the liberties taken on the plot, as some were necessary.
This will become a classic. If however, you are wondering where the weird creatures and light sabres are.. next aisle

  • South Korea ends Apple, Google control of app store payments

Apple will need to cover its costs. I would rather not have this passed on to users. Options could include reducing the Apple fee in South Korea to a low enough number that it is not worth it for developers to implement - who will be under pressure to reduce the prices of their apps regardless now. Or perhaps  developers who sell apps in South Korea and demand alternative payment system that completely avoids Apple, could have their developer fee increased to cover Apple's costs. Not $99. Perhaps $9,999.

  • South Korean decision on App Store payment exclusivity delayed again [u]

In the US, the 'settled' class action suit for 100M will see lawyers get...[drum roll]... 30%. Apparently only Apple is not allowed to charge 30% LOL.

I am willing to pay a premium for for the products I like, and frankly I don't care how much Apple profits. If they make bad business decisions, like charging customers or developers 'too much', they place themselves at risk. I won't buy, and developers won't develop. Why do governments intervene when this has nothing to do with consumer protection, and everything to do with hobbling US corporations that are more competitive than their own?

That is disconcerting. They are implementing a Vaccine Passport here in BC next month. I hope they use a more secure system. It's sad thought that there are people that will work hard to make themselves a fake VP, or buy one from someone, rather than just getting the shot for free. Reminds me of the people that spend a hundred dollars worth of time and hassle to build a system to save thirty dollars on their taxes.
I live in Quebec and what is sad is the implementation of a vaccine passport that will create two classes of citizens. Call it segregation, apartheid. This is 1938 Nazi Germany nothing less. BC and Ontario will follow. Canada is now known as Chinada. Shame.

That's one of the dumbest comparisons I've ever run across. Sadly you're not the only one to make it. Read a book. Find out what TRUE oppression and victimization is. This is not Naziism or apartheid or segregation or China. You are just flat out wrong on that.
What about people who can’t get the vaccine, for medical reasons? Are they just shit out of luck?
If you can't get the vaccine due to allergy or something else, it sounds like a super-bad idea to go to a concert or other big event -- even more so if you don't know whether the others are vaccinated. Or, what do you think should be the solution?
People who can't get a vaccine (for COVID or anything else) shouldn't be locked up for the rest of their lives. Or are you saying this passport should only be used for a limited amount of time? I'm pro-vaccine, but there has to be respect and answers for those people who can't get it. And you aren't providing the answer; you are asking others to come up with an answer for you.

The list of reasons that prevent an adequate vaccine response is well described. They are being offered a third dose.
The list of reasons that medically prevent a first dose is non existent as mRNA vaccines have never been used before.
The list of reasons that medically limit a second dose includes serious adverse effects such as myocarditis. Tough decision for those folks.
The list of reasons that people just refuse vaccines includes fear, ignorance, anti-government rebellion, stubbornness, selfishness, childishness, .. but these are not medical reasons.

  • South Korea likely to pass prohibitive app store legislation on Wednesday, report says

Not the end of App Stores or security imo. Apple will likely provide directions to the developer web site to pay. Whether users go, will depend on how much of a discount and how difficult the process is. On Apple TV, I have signed up for a number of streaming services on the vendor site, not to avoid paying Apple, but rather because they offered a discount for an annual rate, while Apple has a monthly plan only. Inconvenient to go back and forth with setting up account, entering credit card, and then going back to app with a user name and password, but enough of a saving that I did. Others may just pass. It will likely be the same for iOS App Store. For most users, we will get little out of this change.  Spotify did not drop their prices and I suspect many developers will not offer any discount. The big developers will just make a bit more money.
