  • EU to settle Apple Pay NFC probe after Apple's concessions

It’s hard to see how consumers benefit from allowing banks to set up their own wallets. It is, however, easy to see how banks benefit.

It will be interesting to look at Curve’s wallet. Can I put concert tickets, ID cards, boarding passes and other non-financial items into their wallet? If so, will they properly safeguard my information? If not, do I need to use multiple wallets and how do I choose between them?

For all of this extra headache, I get ???? benefits? Still waiting to hear on that.

I have gone through the experience of having way too many apps to control smart devices. Apple Home did not solve this but Home Assistant did. Similarly I will stay with Apple Wallet for convenience and security. I really can't see how I can be persuaded to use multiple apps for NFC access.

  • VITURE One XR glasses review: Good versatility with accessory limits

I bought the XR One glasses and had for about a week until I saw the XR Pro was just released. I was able to return and am now waiting for the new model to arrive. Still I had the old ones for a week to play with. The new model is better in many ways so looking forward to getting. Honestly this review was superficial. And the criticism for extra hardware to connect to older lightning connector iPhones was unfair.  Connection could not be simpler with an iPhone 15. Plug in and use. There was no discussion of the two dongle options that allow USB-C charging while using. The 'XR version' enables enhanced 3DoF, VR features, and multi screen support on iPhone 15/15 Pro. It is only about $20 more and definitely a better buy than the cheaper version that just allows charging while using the glasses. There was no discussion of the neck band with its apps. Not something I need but still very cool. And finally, no discussion of its connection with a Switch or other gaming consoles.

If you want a more in depth review of these glasses, there are several excellent YouTube videos. Overall I would give these glasses a 4.5/5 for amazing video quality  and features. The largest negatives are its somewhat high price and weak audio volume. Perfect for what I wanted to use them for and look kind of like normal sun glasses. These were not meant to compete with the more featured and advanced Apple Vision Pro but for what they do, they are amazing for the price.

  • UK rushes through Digital Markets Act copycat to regulate mostly US big tech

I feel so frustrated that Apple doesn't just say "Fuck Europe". There is no monopoly. The U.S. Congress is also trying to say that Apple is a monopoly. That's ridiculous. A monopoly is like when I want to subscribe to cable TV and my only option is Spectrum. If I want cable TV, then I only have one choice and that's it. That's a monopoly. Apple should be able to run their "store" how they feel fit. It's their store. Is the government trying to tell Walmart what they can or cannot put in their store? Are they trying to dictate to Walmart what prices they can charge? If you are not happy with Apple's business practices, then buy a phone from one of a dozen other manufacturers. No one is forcing you against your will to buy an Apple device.

I hear you but there are some points in which Apple needs 'guidance' on how it deals with users. Lots of discussions on those. That said, I am curious how much of 'this' is coming from developers that want more money and iPhone users that want more freedom in using their phones, rather than governments who just want to hobble Apple and other successful US tech companies. The latter appears to be true in the EU where Vestager and her commission are clearly targeting American companies.  One thing for sure, it is not coming from Android users who have decided which OS and hardware they prefer. On that point, that is how it should be - our choice to use the phones we want, from the companies we want to buy from and let market forces shape their products and policies within the law.

  • Apple fires back at DOJ antitrust case, calls for immediate dismissal

Garland threw the gauntlet down to show America that the DOJ is looking out for 'the people', having failed miserably by not bringing more compelling 'cases' cough cough to trial faster. There is a lot of pressure on the DOJ to prove they can do anything right. Apple is doing not only the predicted thing, but the right thing against this politically motivated charade of a case.

  • Apple takes EU to court over $2 billion Apple Music fine

Vestager lost her Irish-Apple tax case in court, so I think the EU court deals with laws and not feelings. The $2B fine was many times higher than even EU regulators thought, because Vestager wanted to send 'a message'. She arbitrarily increased to this. I think we get the message - 'We can make things up as we go along.' Given the market leader position of Spotify, it is hard to see how the EU will win this. Spotify, a horribly run company with an incompetent CEO who's motto is 'spend, spend, spend' and then 'fire, fire, fire... and fine Apple'. Daniel Ek has spent millions on soccer club support, paid way too much for mediocre podcasters, fired 1700 employees AFTER hosting a lavish company party, became a billionaire when the company went public, yet Spotify has never made a profit despite its dominant/near monopoly market position. I think all of the tech companies who are next to be axed are watching this case closely. Perhaps the law will prevail.

And yes I know the Irish-Apple tax case in under appeal. Vestager will lose again as the facts have not changed.
