  • iPhone SE returns to Apple's clearance store for third time in January

This would be great if they kept size and upgraded processor. Their support will end soon and $300 might be waste of money. Having hardware upgraded phone for $500 that would be supported for next 4 years would be much better option. I was personally in the situation like that and as much as I like iPhone SE and its attractive price I will not buy it because of limited time support. I upgrade mobile phones every 4-5 years. I do not care what others do and I definitely do not have time for playing phone upgrades and hype - this only tool for me. So to keep cost efficiency and upgrade I went Android LG which offers solid functions (some quality is way better than newest iPhone's like screen and sound). Sorry Apple, but that was good run with 5S for last years. No more and absolutely nothing that exceeds $600 price mark for phone.
This is what I tell people who say if I don't want to pay $1k+ for an iPhone XS then get an 8 or a 7. Yes I can save a few hundred but it will have a significantly shorter lifespan. Apple will stop pushing iOS updates that much sooner. I and not sure if my SE or my wife's 6 will get iOS 13 later this year. Once that happens the clock is ticking. We will be looking to update after that. It makes no sense to replace them with a 7 that will be in the same boat in a year or two.
The A9 chip found in the iPhone SE is pretty powerful. AR currently works with it. I also find it hard to believe that Apple would sell new phones and then eliminate them from upgrades 9 months later.
They won't. The 6S and SE are still available through authorized retailers, and the SE now directly from Apple. Until they are discontinued I seriously doubt they won't be included in the next update. They will at least get iOS 13, which is another 21 months. Either way, Apple just sold me two brand new 128GB SEs this morning, and with Apple Care will have to support them 100% for the next 3 years. Therefore, I'd be surprised in Apple didn't at least support two more OS updates for them to get close to the warrantied lifespan.  Then again, other than security patches, why would I even need updates? It works perfectly now to do everything I need, and the hardware isn't going to change, so it's not like any new ground breaking features can be added.

  • Flexible glass displays could replace MacBook Pro keyboards

idiotic idea from a company that has lost direction. Apple has gone down this path of forcing design changes on customers that neither improve their experience nor add anything significant to the product. They are just changes for changes sake. The headphone jack went away because? The adoption of USB C at the exclusion of other standard ports like USB A and SD cards? I hope they do adopt the glass keyboard. If it's anything like the force touch or haptic feedback it will be a dismal failure. All the legions of coders and developers who adore Macbooks will ditch them for HP and Dell. After a dismal sales meeting they will finally be forced to assess their ivory tower design ethos of putting form at the expense of function.
There are 10 year old kids who have only ever typed on an iPhone or iPad. I’d say this is coming to market at about the right time to ensure they continue typing on virtual keyboards without interruption. Seems like the new norm to me. Tomorrow’s coders May very well prefer glass virtual keyboards.

  • A new iPod Touch is coming soon, if the rumor mills are correct

I suggested after the 6s/SE came out that a larger format iPod would make sense, from a use perspective, as a gaming and movie device for kids who don't need cellular. However, while I agree the Xr would fulfill that function perfectly, I don't see how they offer the Xr for the same price point they currently offer the iPod Touch, just by eliminating cellular (which I'm not sure is a very good idea). Moreover, that idea was several years ago before the hand me down iPhone become a common option for parents, of which there is no shortage of large screens in circulation. And considering the safety concerns a mobile phone mitigates, it seems like the age which children are given an active cell phone is constantly dropping year after year.

Then there's the size issue. Small children would likely prefer a smaller device like the Touch or SE. Add to that the idea of using it as a dedicated iPod for adults -- it doesn't really make sense for that to be as large as their primary iPhone.

So unless Apple plans both an iPod and an iPod Plus, it would seem a smaller model makes sense, while letting the rumored iPad mini serve the larger screen variation.

I would think an Xr format shrunk down to the size of the SE, which could perform double duty as an SE2, and a new  iPod Touch would be a far better goal for Apple than one as theoretically limited as the iPod Touch, which competes both with the Xr and iPad mini. That way, a cellular connection would be possible if needed, via a software sim only (and perhaps another model with dual sims), and Apple produces one device for all the fringe use needs, at a much lower price point than the Xr, or other larger screen devices.

  • New iPad and fifth-generation iPad mini on the way according to Russian regulatory filings...

I'd buy a mini for someone as a gift on release, its just the right size for some ladies handbags.

I don't see the need for a pro-spec or a pencil on the mini, just the latest bits and an update screen. All good.
Have you read the other comments who want the Pencil? In which case, do you see the need now, if not for yourself, for others?

The screen also limits the need for the “Pro” features. The pencil is less useful, a weaker processor and graphics processor can drive a smaller screen, etc.
Pencil support would be a dream come true. I'd be able to finally ditch the A5 notebooks that I've always carried since high school.
I’m a heavy iPad Pro user with Pencil for note taking. I frequently have the Apple Pencil in my hand and start to try to navigate or take notes on my iPhone before I suddenly remember that the Pencil won’t work with them. Apple should offer Pencil support on all of its mobile devices in my opinion.
With the current crop of iPhones being as large as they are, Pencil support seems to be an entirely reasonable addition, particularly to the "Max"-sized models. Arguably, the Pencil make navigating smaller screens easier, so I would suggest, as do you, that every iOS device support it. But considering the ever increasing cost of phones, it's unlikely they would add a truly optional feature if it were to increase the cost. Certainly I wouldn't expect any iPhone to be capable of charging the Pencil in any event.

  • Macintosh launched on Jan 24, 1984 and changed the world -- eventually

But, the real story is the Lisa, without Lisa, there would be no Mac. The Macintosh was a revamped Lisa...Lisa was $10,000.
The reality is that the Lisa would have likely been the Mac had Jobs not been forced off the team. It's of course infamously allegedly named Lisa after his daughter. Jobs started that project, and only turned his attention to the Mac as a competitor after he was ousted whilst looking for something else to do. For all practical purposes, the Lisa was the Mac, and the Mac is the Lisa 2.0 -- it's a direct evolution. Only the marketing of the product was different, until they buried the Lisa in a landfill in Utah, and introduced the Mac Plus as a replacement business computer boasting similar features.
