Well, hopefully you’ll never lose your phone, break it, or have it stolen, or leave it behind. You don’t need to even activate the LTE service for it to be useful. My mom forgot her phone at home when she ran an errand one day, and of course that’s the day her car broke down, stranding her on the road, and having to seek out a phone to call a tow truck. It’s cheap insurance to have access to emergency services without even paying for a phone plan to otherwise use the calling and data features. A friend had his phone stolen while traveling and would have had a real problem if not for his LTE connected watch.

HDR is a far more important feature than 4K. It used to be that 4K was the only way to get HDR, but now that streaming services have added it to 1080p streams, 4K is no longer necessary. I actually prefer 1080p on my Apple TV 4K for daily viewing since the buffering takes less time, especially when channel flipping through Netflix -- yet I still get HDR where available. I only go into 4K when it's a big "event" film. Wish the ATV 4K had auto resolution matching, but that may never come.

As for mobile devices, this is especially true. No real need for 4K on a display that small. Where I notice the difference with 4K is on TVs that are 65" and larger where the seating distance is less than 8 feet.

Personally, I would pay for the LTE even if I didn’t intend to use it, for the peice of mind to be able to call 911 emergency services in those instances, however rare, I didn’t have my phone.

I would be surprised if the 5.8" screen ever goes away.  Although the huge screen of the Max is very popular (and it's beautiful, checked one out at the apple store this weekend), I think there are tens of millions who still like the smaller form factor.  I just got my wife a new iPhone 8 (upgrade from a 6s), she thinks the X form factor is still too big because she can't access everything on the screen while holding it in one hand.  I don't have that problem with my X but of course my hands are larger.  I think for smaller hands, the smaller size is still appealing. 

I love how we’re talking about the 5.8 as “the smaller form factor” of the iPhone line.

Im thinking the 4.7” is the size they’re going to have to decide about keeping soon, repackaged into a smaller bezeless case with any luck.

I don’t know, maybe I’m the only one, but when I saw this graphic on screen during the event, I thought it looked like a problem waiting to happen.

Yes the engineering is impressive, but I’m not sure what the point is. All those parts have to be expensive to manufacture and assemble, all to get the equivalent experience of an analogue watch. And I’m not sure it’s really necessary. Considering Apple is eliminating hardware buttons across all of its devices, it really does seem anachronistic — the physical equivalent of a skeuomorphic display. Again, maybe it’s just me, but it seems like the same thing could be handled by sliding ones finger along the edge of the bezel, and with much less potential for something to go wrong mechanically. Anyway, YMMV.
