  • Looking back at Steve Jobs's NeXT, Inc -- the most successful failure ever

The paint scuffing comment doesn’t tell you the half of it. The NeXT Computer was in fact powder coated, not painted, and though magnesium is not exactly an easy metal to powder coat and powder coating is far from an exact science, Steve nevertheless would not allow his factory to sign off on any casing where the finish was less than flawless - thereby ensuring that the mere aesthetic finish of the machine ensured that it could never be produced at a profit.

That’s one reason why Jony Ive was so critical in Apple’s resurgence: his knowledge of material science and his having Steve’s ear meant no more chasing the impossible.
One flaw in your final statement. Jony isn't a Material Science Engineer but an Industrial Design Engineer. His team of Material Science Engineers with his aesthetic details in all industrial design keeps a very focused vision from going awry. I left before I had a chance to move into the Mechanical Engineering departments of hardware and design, but then it's astonishing how much it has blossomed under Jony's focus and leadership.

Musk is way over this head at Tesla. This is a surprise as SpaceX is a very successful venture. I'm surprised Musk is not leading Tesla as competently as he has SpaceX.

Musk's admission that he is sleeping in his office at Tesla is an admission of failure -- it's certainly nothing to brag about.
SpaceX full of ex-NASA engineers and scientists already know how to launch, design, assemble, test and produce a viable product for Space lifting. Tesla is a different beast.

Pres. Trump previously assured Cook that Apple would not be part of any tariffs. And the Chinese government would be fools to retaliate using Apple as an example. Apple employs tens of thousands of Chinese workers there.
Why should Apple be exclusively spared when others aren't?
A lot of Apple customers are also Trump voters.  You don't really think that Jared and Ivanka use Android, do you?
Far smalller minority perhaps, but far more Trump voters are Android users as they don't want to pay for anything. Majority of food stamp/welfare recipients are white trash Amerikans who vote Trump and GOP.

  • Tested: Thermal conditions in the 2018 i9 MacBook Pro dramatically hampering performance

Time for Apple to go AMD with Zen+ and Zen2, etc. The TDP and performance metrics are out to show that AMD is now back on top.
