The MacBook is a great innovation, but a single port computer with a 12" display shouldn't start at €1,499 here. Do you think that could be one of the reasons why they are selling less of them?
Why is it a great innovation? Certainly not the keyboard, its atrocious.
It is an innovative design that took a lot of engineering to fit in such a slim form factor while providing excellent battery life. The keyboard is a matter of taste.  Completely fanless, with a great display. Performance may underwhelm people, but it is not a pro-level machine.

  • Google and Oracle face off - again - over Android, with billions on the line

Oracle will get nothing from this. The courts will rule in favor of Google.  Oracle should continue to fight for their property but it will turn out the same as last time.  The courts like Google for some reason.

This is not surprising, actually. Jobs was also doing this. He did actually read emails and would reply to people. Whether the email was about a problem or something more personal, he often enough actually did take the time to read and reply. He also had an open-door policy at the company itself, where employees of Apple could visit him, tell him about their problems and he would try to help.

It's a heartwarming story and my heart goes out to these people. It's also nice to see Cook doing the same as his predecessor. If for no other reason than because it's a human thing to do.
Don’t kid yourself. CEOs don’t have the time to read all the emails they get. Their emails from the pubic are read and filtered by underlings. Those that meet certain criteria are forwarded to them. My guess is that Tim Cook gets tens of thousand of emails per day. Half of them are from sog35 demanding he resign. It is certainly a good thing that Apple’s CEO responds to some of his emails, especially ones like the one in this article, but there’s definitely a procedure in place to deal with this.
Of course emails are filtered up to the CEO. That's SOP for every major corporation. Bu the fact is even with screening Tim probably has a ton of emails to go through, and it was nice of him to take the time to respond. Every hour of that mans life is scheduled in advance and it was a nice gesture on his part.

ps. The line about Sog was very funny.

  • Apple Inc. shares reach ex-dividend as it gears up to distribute $2.9 billion to shareholders

At current prices Apple should be gobbling up outstanding shares unless there is some regulatory restrictions. Take advantage of Wall-Street's negatively.

  • Steve Jobs tasked Apple to fix healthcare and Apple Watch is part of the answer

I wonder if somewhere along the way, Steve vision of this watch pivoted and became something entirely different.
The Apple Watch needed to solve a problem. If that was to fix healthcare, it should have focussed squarely on that and do it exceedingly well.

Instead, Apple has positioned this as a Watch as a do-it-all device running apps and notifications, even sending silly hand drawn messages.
In doing so, it comes off as a nice to have, but certainly not a need to have device.

The Apple Watch was designed to appeal to a wide audience. Limiting it to fitness and health would limit the audience. As technology progresses new and smaller sensors will become available that will broaden the use of the watch even more, but we are limited right now. The watch is still in its infancy and has a lot of room to grow.  Steve could have wished for the watch to do everything but if the tech wasn't there yet there would be nothing he could do.
