  • Facebook continues newspaper attack over Apple ad tracking privacy program

This is a tough sell for Facebook since most people feel like they’re being spied on when they see targeted ads. Saying businesses need to spy on you to make a living is not going to win many converts. It’s like Apple selling home alarms and Facebook lamenting how much this will hurt burglars.

  • Why the Mac's migration to Apple Silicon is bigger than ARM

Mac users will be stuck using dumbed down iOS software for a long time I feel.
Here's news for you, Rain. Very few new apps are written for macOS (or Windows). Apps today are developed for the web, iOS and Android.
In the dark days of the mid 1990s, Mac users were forced to endure the indignity of software ported from Windows. At least now it’s software ported from iOS.

  • Who are Alan Dye and Evans Hankey, the design leads replacing Jony Ive?

I know it's risky for Apple to lose a guy like Ive; but I definitely see a silver lining here. Apple designs have trended toward the beautiful over the useful, choosing design logic over human logic. How else do you explain how you had to recharge the iPad pencil, or sacrificing battery life in order to make iPhones thinner and thinner? Or an iOS interface with a font so spare It was difficult to see. Apple products may wind up in museums of modern art, but they shouldn't be designed for that end. They should be designed to be used.

If the designers stepping into the void put more value in practicality over aesthetics, we might get some new design energy leading to products ordinary people want to use, not just art school grads.

  • Apple recruits four TV executives to growing video team, offers hints at future programmin...

Haven't we seen this before--Apple hiring top flight experts in cars and watches and health monitoring? It's kind of surprising compared to the Steve Jobs era. I don't recall Apple hiring mobile phone experts ahead of the iPhone, or music experts ahead of iTunes. As we've seen in pro sports, "dream teams" made up of high-priced free agents, don't always lead to championships.

  • Apple CEO Tim Cook declines Ireland committee invite, branded as 'snub to Irish people'

I think if Tim Cook wants to speak directly to his employees in Ireland he'll speak directly to his employees in Ireland, not through a political committee. My guess is the Apple offices in Ireland have an electronic communications system commonly called "email" by which Cook can send messages to all employees simultaneously and directly.
