  • Apple considering WWDC Mac Pro reveal, expansion of 'Project Marzipan'

So much for never converging iOS and macOS 😂

Been saying for years that Apple should, would, and will have no rational choice other than unification of the platforms.
Given that apps on macOS can have multiple modes (windowed and full screen) and the os can handle multi-platform binaries (like PPC32, PPC64, x86, x86-64) it’s a no brainer to add an additional mode (TouchUI) and an additional platform (arm64).
At the same time Apple can start dumping intel.

The only thing to be feared about this development is that Apple might use it to close down the Mac, and that we’d need to jailbreak our computers, just to get access or verify what software is running on them.
If that were the case, it would leave me with no option but to move to a strictly opensource platform, and abandon all things Apple.
So you want to cause yourself to switch platforms while Apple abandons their 2 OS system?

I still see no reason to merge the OSs. Sure Mac OS needs to be worked to be tablet compatible, but giving it iOSes hindering interface wouldn’t really help anything. iOS needs to remain on iPhones for the forseevle future as well as there is nothing that could be practically imported from Mac OS.

  • Samsung app leaks new Galaxy Watch, Galaxy Buds earphones, fitness bands

Galaxy earbuds might be there product to match the removal of the 3.5mm audio port on Galaxy phones this year. Not saying its going to happen, but between 2016 and now Samsung seems to be the only smartphone maker that has kept it still standard.

  • Video: Nvidia support was abandoned in macOS Mojave, and here's why

Apple seems to just use what's best for them at the time, and AMD has the better performance to power ratio at this time, and Nvidia hasn't offered Apple anything to convince them otherwise (price is still slightly higher on Nvidia).
It's weird that Apple is trying to avoid the external GPU support side of it though, but they only added eGPU support less than a year ago so its possible they will in the next year, especially if they want the new Mac Pro to be completely modular, but I wouldn't bet on it.

  • Mac desktop shootout -- $3500 iMac 5K versus $1700 Mac mini

The extortion of the price of RAM and SSD upgrades because Apple has designed these machines to make it too difficult for the average punter to do is depressing.
Well the higher quality of the ssd than pretty much any other on the market might have a factor in that cost, and as was stated in the review was they specifically upgraded from base 8GB ram as these models are designed to be upgradable. Does that not mean Apple isn't overcharging as you say? No, but it is not that big a deal since you can upgrade the ram and I think the ssd on the Mac mini. If they offered them at better base prices (lowered the Mac mini $200 or started with 16gb ram, on the iMac pro started 512 GB SSD) it would pretty much solve the issue.

  • iPhone replacement cycles slowing down to four years, pose threat to services, analyst say...

4 years replacement cycle sounds unreasonable. People go at most 2 1/2 to 3 years most.
I used to be a 2year upgrader. But Apple prices now have made me choke and hold off the last two years. I was absolutely ready to buy an iPhone X but just can’t stomach the price. OK, here comes the XS, I’ll get that..... what? They raised the price again! Choke again, OK iPhone 11?....

It’s always been a case of you couldn’t give me an Android for free but the thought of switching to Android has actually crossed my mind now.

My iPhone 6 is looking like a 5year upgrade cycle.
The replacement for a 6 is not an XS, it's an XR, which is around the same price as the 6 when it was released.

Apple hasn't "raised" any prices, it's released phones at the higher end, but in this age of self entitlement we live in, a $750 phone that is three times more powerful than the $750 phone from two years ago is not good enough.  Everyone has to have the best, and they feel their constitutional rights are being violated if it's not sold for the same price as the phone they bought four years ago.

    Get real.

iPhone 6s+ was $750 3 years ago, iPhone XR is the same $750.

    Similar:
The screens break even(some size difference, notch is annoying, 3D Touch and some ppi is lost for the True Tone).
Touch ID 2 vs Face ID 1 seem relatively similar and good performers, it is more to user opinions.
Size: The Xr is thicker and weighs more vs the more height and width of the 6S+
Larger screen with lots of gestures vs home button

    Better on the 6S+:
    Headphone port

    Better on the Xr:
1 Hr longer battery life+wireless charging for those that use it.
    Cameras
A12 vs A9 chip (I guess starting storage should be here of 64gb vs 16 gb, but that puts the xr at the $850 6s+ price at the time)
    1 meter water resistance.

I guess that is more advantages to the Xr but considering it has been 3 years it hasn't been much, also individuals will prefer each of those similarities differently where on a bias, the Xr isn't much of an upgrade at all for the same price. But the XS receives a winning screen and even more camera for the cost of size and battery life over the XR for $1k. That is about the upgrade we should have seen in my opinion over this time.
