  • Compared: 2018 MacBook Air versus 13-inch MacBook Pro and 2017 MacBook Air

It's a decent refresh, but it has caused the convoluted MacBook line now.
1.3 base model MacBooks with similar base price, with only the air $100 less.
2.They all have similar screen sizes with the higher end Touch Bar MacBook Pro(essentially its own product line) on top, the exception in the MacBook being 1" smaller.
3.Storage seems to be the biggest differentiator between all of them with the air and pro at 128 Gb, and the pro with toucher and MacBook being 256 GB.
3.They are still selling the 5 year old air, but it's the same price it was 5 years ago, making it essentially the air and air+ as they might be doing with the MacBook Pros if they don't update the base model again in the next few generations.

I can't imagine them keeping this, I guess they might update the regular MacBooks design next year and offer a $1k model(even if its the current unupdated one), knocking out that old air. Also the fact they didn't update the basic Pros and they are so similar to this new air($100 is for the slightly better screen) that they might stop selling them, or at least continue to not update them.

I am surprised they didn’t go for Face ID.
It seems that is IOS exclusive for now(possibly not compatible with the T2 chip). But I can't imagine it not being phased over in the near future, most likely initially on the MacBook Pro, and then it can expand to all MacBooks+the iMac(putting a Touch ID sensor anywhere on that would be weird, so FaceID makes a lot more sense.

  • Apple will no longer report iPhone, Mac and iPad unit sales

So they don't want to discuss which product categories increase sales anymore? Sort of weird.

I also suspect it might be because they don't want to reveal that their higher price devices aren't selling as they are hoping they will.

  • Apple highlights iPad Pro's USB-C connectivity to an external 4K or 5K display

Could that work in reverse, allowing an iPad Pro to be used as an external display for a Mac (or even another iPad Pro?)
Considering target display mode has not been used in Macs for a couple of years, unfortunately no and I don't think it will be added in the near future, but here's to hoping.

    In NYC ?!?!

    Seems unusual …No ?

They did their most recent education event in Chicago. Maybe NY as it's a mecca for art?
Just covering the most visited/ populated cities in the U.S.? San Francisco, Chicago and New York are all on the I80 corridor, but I doubt that's a reason.

Could it be a possibility they are opening a New Apple Store near the venue or one of these product launches might make New York a great backdrop for a new AR or maps iPad app?

  • Unsurprisingly, the 2019 iPhones are expected to be as waterproof as the iPhone XR

I don’t care about improving the iPhone water resistance further. I think it’s fine right now. What I would like to see is for Apple to apply the same water resistance on their iPads. I travel & backpack a lot. The iPad is my go to device for editing photos & videos while on the road. I do protect my iPad when traveling abroad, but it would be nice to have the extra peace of mind a water resistant iPad would bring while backpacking thru a downpour.
Yes, waterproofing coming to all ios devices and even macbooks at a later point would be the next objective.
