  • Apple's ad-free presence on Amazon raises questions about digital advertising practices

When regulators think they know better what is „relevant“ to you than you yourself then this’d is definitely brave new world knocking.
    What‘s next? Relevant clothing?

Apart from that: Amazon has probably an expected ad rev. So what‘s the effing issue if his Apple-ness simply pays out JEff and the Gang and in return receives a nice, ad-free experience for their customers?

  • Apple TV renovation could kill iTunes Movies app in December

I still buy, don‘t stream - maybe a dying breed. Having said this, I avoids the ATV app and only go through Movies - even that one is not very usable through remote navigation.
We have 700+ movies in the library and it is a PITA to navigate them. Siri doesn‘t work with different languages of titles in the mix. You cannot create you own playlists/collections, something we could do in iTunes very early on.

Beyond that, when I first time read „I cracked it“ and it was clear that Gene Munster was totally wrong my idea was that Apple would make a „meta app“: One great interface and all sources for movies, theirs, Disney, Netflix etc., under the hood. Turns out, not so much. I also wished they‘d had pushed for the option to buy additional language tracks.

On the positive side: finally I can find my remote when our cats toyed with it :-)

  • Apple plans more AI in iOS, improved Siri in $1B technology push

AI stands for "Appearance of Intelligence". There's no actual intelligence involved at all. It only appears that way if you don't see what's happening behind the curtain.
OF course, one could argue that „actual intelligence“ is nothing but „really really advanced statistics embedded in a bio-chemical system“. I am not sure to what extent one can draw a sharp line between both of them. I think that the term „knowledge“ is more than „data“ and the magic word here might be „context“. As long as ChatGPT and friends model people with six fingers (as I have seen) there is apparently way to go…
