  • Apple releases tvOS 17.2 with 3D movies and better system navigation

The new sidebar for Apps such as Disney+ sucks. You can see stuff but you don’t have the ability to change users, search movies and shows, etc that you do from the Disney App itself. You have to go all the way to the bottom to find an option to go to Disney +. Easier just to sign in to the Disney + app itself. Other applications are the same way. It was also a lot easier to use the movies and tv individual app themselves rather than the new sidebar option. Maybe the designers should let real users try these changes before forcing on people.
What the heck are talking about? The apps are still there, so just keep using the individual apps if that’s what you want.

  • From X10 to Matter: The smart home evolves again

Most of the last section about Thread is wrong. Thread does not communicate over Bluetooth or WiFi, it is a completely different network protocol designed specifically for smart home devices that they can use instead of using Bluetooth or WiFi.

Also, Thread is not "a common "language" between various companies' devices". That's what Matter is.

Thread - mesh network protocol - how the messages are sent (such as a letter, email, telephone)

Matter - communication standard - what the message says, common language for smart home devices (such as English or French), can be sent over Ethernet, WiFi, or Thread

  • Apple Maps expanding to more cities & getting multistop routing in iOS 16

    Wot? No Canada? No Quebec?
Uh....Apple already announced the Canada expansion at WWDC 2 years ago.

Canada has had the new maps since 2020, including Look Around coverage everywhere and detailed city maps for Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

  • Netflix versus Apple TV+: how Apple is stealing mindshare in a too crowded streaming marke...

I have no idea if ATV+ will ever make sense financially for Apple, but I have come to really love it. They really have some of the best shows. And Netflix isn't nearly as compelling as it once was. Our household needs to take a hard look at our subscriptions and cut some out. There's no way I'd cut ATV+ and Netflix is at the top the list to cut.

I would also cut Disney if people would let me, and maybe add Paramount+
    Apple TV+ ($50), Disney+ ($80), and Paramount+ ($100) combined are cheaper per year than Netflix ($240).

  • Netflix raises monthly price of standard plan to $13.99, premium to $17.99

Of course! Just cancelled Hulu and restarted Netflix a couple days ago. Probably keeping it only a 2-3 months. We'll stick with HBO Max & Prime, and maybe add TV+ early next year.
Pretty sure if you subscribe to TV+ before the end of this month, you’ll get it for free until February.
