  • Apple working with Consumer Reports on MacBook Pro battery findings, says Phil Schiller

For balance I should point out that I don't have a problem with battery life on the new MacBook Pro, lives up to Apple's estimate. Just in case anyone thought this was a widespread issue and that every single new MBP is affected, as some people do.

  • LG UltraFine 5K Display now for sale through Apple, first orders ship in January [u]

Did you watch Apples last product presentation...? This is supposed to be a joint venture between Apple and LG replacing Cinema Display. Hence : Big mistake by Apple to approach monitors in such a secondary way.. reducing Apple logo and Design theme visibility at the high end.
It's not a "joint venture" and it's not meant to be a replacement in Apple's lineup for the Thunderbolt display. What Phil Schiller actually said was that Apple had worked with LG on the 5K display, likely on the technical side to make sure there was a decent third-party option that was up to scratch for use with the new MacBook Pro. The display includes speakers, camera, support for wide colour, etc. all things that Apple and users would want from a display. This is LG's display and one that Apple will heavily promote, as they have done, to be a companion to the MacBook Pro. I'm sure as other displays come along they will also appear as third-party options. Clearly Apple has their own reasons for not designing and badging their own display, whether it's financial or just a lack of interest or manpower to devote to the project for the long term. Either way, the display side of the business was pretty small for them hence why they've left it to a third-party this time round, but offered assistance to make sure it's on par technically.

Joint venture between Apple And LG ...yet there is no Apple logo or Any Hint of Apple design theme there... Big mistake by Apple to approach monitors in such a secondary way.. reducing Apple logo and Design theme visibility at the high end.
Firstly, why would there be an Apple logo? It's an LG display. Secondly, Apple more than likely contributed on the technical side rather than the aesthetic design of the display.

  • Examined: Thunderbolt 3 and USB 3.1 gen 2 on the new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar

I don't see what the problem is myself. I ordered a USB-C to USB-A adapter with my MacBook Pro but I've just been looking at replacement cables for the 3 things that I actually connect to my Mac. I can easily just buy a printer cable, external hard drive cable and perhaps a Lightning cable that all have USB-C connectivity, therefore eliminating the need to use adapters. I'll still keep the adapter that I've purchased as a just in case backup, but replacing your existing cables is far easier than shelling out on a bunch of adapters and will look much neater (if you're a bit OCD about such things like me!).

Why should I, as a consumer, be happy when a lot of Apple competitors are failing? Right now, I use an iPad with a Samsung screen - and a Samsung manufactured chip. That chip is running iOS 9, which has been influenced by Android in a lot of ways.

You know that for sure? The screen could be made by LG or another manufacturer, Apple uses other suppliers for screens besides Samsung. The chip could just as likely be manufactured by TSMC.
