Apple's changes will benefit them? How, exactly, will it benefit them? Oh, by bringing in more users, when people gravitate toward the platform that lets them choose not to be tracked? Nice admission there, Zuck.

Exactly. Epic says they won't comply with Apple's rules (even temporarily, while the suit proceeds) because they're "illegal." What does that mean? Epic's suit claims that it is illegal for Apple to require its 30% App Store markup — but even Epic doesn't claim that it is illegal for a developer to consent to such a markup. Epic could prevent all this allegedly incalculable harm by simply complying (for now) with Apple's rules, and reaping that much more money from a judgment if-and-when they win their case. Instead, Epic is purposely forcing the court to choose between "incalculable harm" to Fortnite users, or allowing Epic (but not its competitors) to offer a markup-free price to its iOS users for many months or years while the case drags on. The judge made the right call the first time: Epic can play by the same rules as all other game developers, even while it sues to try to change those rules.

Imagine if Coke sent new signage to Kroger, for the Coke section of the store, that announced, "This soda would be a lot cheaper if Kroger didn't mark it up so much above the wholesale price." Would Kroger happily install that signage in their store? No. They would send it back or throw it in the trash.

FYI: Essential was founded Nov. 9, 2015. If those investors who just lost almost all of their $330 million had instead bought shares of Apple on that date, they would have nearly tripled their money by now.

Most likely, Epic simply senses a threat to their long-term domination of this business, and these hospitals are toeing the line dutifully because they're too far in bed with Epic to imagine getting out in one piece. I've had the misfortune to actually use Epic at a couple jobs, and IMNSHO, it's a real mess.
