  • Burglars cut through wall, steal $500,000 in gear from Apple Store

What I want to know is: Can't Apple remotely disable these stolen items, or disallow them to use Apple's iCloud and other support servers, hence rendering them basically useless, or mostly useless? (Think: deny them iOS updates.) Surely Apple has thought of this long ago. How is it even profitable to steal a bunch of Apple products from their stores any more?

  • Apple's dominance means it needs stricter controls, says Germany's antitrust regulator

Apple's ATT — which gives each user the option to allow/disallow tracking for each individual app — is "not sufficiently controlled by competition"? So if market forces don't persuade Apple to let Facebook track all iPhone users whether they like it or not, then the government needs to step in and make it happen? Thanks, Germany. Glad I don't live there.

  • New EU rules would force Apple to open up iMessage

    ...
I have Signal on my iPhone because it allows for multi-platform end-to-end encryption with certain features like message expiration, and I don't expect Messages to handle this simply because I want those features.
    ...
Speaking of Signal: The UK government is considering whether to require Signal (and other, similar apps) to have a backdoor to get in when the government asks them to. In response, Signal publicly stated that it will "absolutely, 100% walk" away from the UK if this rule is enacted.

  • Multiple mall shootings prompt Apple Store closure in North Carolina

FYI, Northlake Mall has been dying for some time, and Apple was already planning to move out. This latest shooting just provoked a decision to close the store the very next day, likely for the safety of Apple's employees and customers. I presume that Northlake must have been doing well when Apple first put a store there, but lately it's turned into a has-been ghost town, and sections of the mall are being converted to non-shopping uses.

  • Apple Music violates EU antitrust laws, $39 billion fine possible

I have to say I agree that Apple’s ban on any mention of purchases or accounts outside the App Store does harm Apple users.

As an Apple user wouldn’t you want to know if there is a cheaper option available before making an in-app purchase? I know I do!
If you were looking at Dyson vacuums at Target, would you expect to see a message printed on the box that says, "This same Dyson is much cheaper at Costco; you can go buy it there!" Target would never allow that. Should the law require them to?
