  • Apple's macOS 11 Big Sur marks the end of OS X, not the Mac

The multitasking, multiple window/desktop experience of Mac is still nowhere close to being replicated on an iPad. In my work environment, that convenience alone will keep me using a Mac for a long time.

The bigger worry for Apple should be people who spend big $$ to buy a MacBook Air or Pro, or an iMac, to watch YouTube, Netflix, or do Facebook updates. Which is probably a larger population than they care to admit. So, as iPad becomes a better platform for those users, and they abandon the Mac, will there be sufficient customer base left to continue Mac development?

  • Force Touch support to be dropped in watchOS 7

I think Apple has been moving Force Touch functions from WatchOS, so only screen editing remains? For me, it’s easier to do screen editing via the Watch app on my iPhone.

Regarding 3D Touch versus Haptic Touch...I have an iPhone X (3D Touch) as well as a company-issued iPhone XR (Haptic Touch), and I use them in exactly the same way. There may be a few 3D Touch operations that are slightly different when done with Haptic Touch, but I don’t even recall what they are. For my experience, Haptic Touch delivers 99% of what 3D Touch does.

Conversely, 3D Touch screens probably cost more to manufacture, may not be as reliable, or may be more fragile. Given those negative aspects, why keep using special screens when SO MANY IPHONE USERS DON’T EVEN KNOW 3D TOUCH EXISTS?!?

  • Rosetta 2 lacks support for x86 virtualization, Boot Camp not an Apple Silicon option [u]

ARM is literally now in billions of devices already. We have Raspberry Pi with AMD which costs ONLY $100. A lot of operating systems are being ported to ARM. Even Ubuntu is now ported to ARM. Windows is already ported to ARM.  x86 has literally run out of all its juice while ARM has plenty of room for decades to come. In just a decade, x86 will be "dead" because it just won't be able to compete against ARM anymore.

We need to stop clinging to legacy hardware and move forward to the future.
There is a huge need to continue virtualizing Windows-based server applications, as well as server applications running in x86_64 Linux distros, so I think it’s a little early to write off x86 hardware as legacy, and time to move on.  Heck, most banking applications still run on mainframes!

  • Compared: iPhone 8 versus iPhone SE

It’s identical to the iPhone 8 in most ways. Upgraded with A13, WiFi 6, dual SIM, and a 256GB option. And starts $50 cheaper.

The only advantage that the iPhone 8 has is availability in more colors.  So, why would you buy an iPhone 8?

I’m writing this on my SE.  I love this device!  Can’t wait for a new one!

If the new rumors are true just get an iPhone 8.

That is probably bad advice, since the rumored price for the new iPhone SE is lower than the current iPhone 8 price. And even if it was the same price, the performance gain alone would be worth it, as well as the longevity, since the iPhone 8 will only be supported for a few more years, at most.
