  • Lawmakers urged to block TSMC worker visas over Arizona plant construction

I'm not sure what was expected. It's pretty obvious when building a modern manufacturing facility in a state who's education system is 49th in the nation finding skilled properly educated workers is going to be problem. As time goes on more will realize that our nation sucks at competing in many areas.

I'm frankly in disbelief that Apple can achieve this level of penetration in any market any where. An average iPhone is about 2 to 3 times more expensive than an average Android or other competitor device. It really speaks to the zero interest 30mo payment plans, at least in the USA, that carriers use as incentives to lock in customers.
A comment like this ignores the entire “price versus value“ concept, or that there are relative differences in quality or usability between the platforms. This is why refurbished iPhone demand has soared in India, even though they are still more expensive than most android phone models sold in the country. https://www.ft.com/content/7ffc9881-7414-4b04-9687-9f95dbb3948e

Everything isn’t all about absolute lowest price at all times, otherwise our buildings would be frequently falling down and we would all be driving Yugos.

The only reason Apple is doing well in Japan...
Timing? I just finished reading a WSJ article claiming that Google Pixels now hold roughly 10% of Japan's market.

  • Apple Pencil functionality compromised with third-party iPad parts

Well this certainly makes it difficult to fence all of those iPads stolen to supply the "third party" parts inventories of the world. How are we supposed to dispose of all the activation locked iPads we've stolen?

  • Why Apple uses integrated memory in Apple Silicon -- and why it's both good and bad

So much drama when most users processing demands result from keeping an infinite number of Chrome tabs open,

  • Rare Apple Earthquake Survival Kit contains timeless safety advice

I thought we were safe from earthquakes, wildfires, hurricanes and volcanoes living in the Midwest. Then I heard about the New Madrid earthquakes. A series of quakes estimated between 7.2 and 8.2, followed by an aftershock of about 7.4. Changed the course of the Mississippi River in 1811-12. The area was virtually unpopulated at the time, so there were no casualties recorded. It remains the strongest continental American quake east of the Mississippi in recorded history.

A quake that size in that area today would kill thousands, possibly tens of thousands. The 1906 San Francisco was estimated at 7.9, and 3,000 people were killed. That New Madrid Fault runs through major cities such as Memphis, Tennessee, St. Louis, Missouri, Little Rock, Arkansas and Evansville, Indiana.

And all that would be a speed bump compared to the cataclysm if the Yellowstone super volcano came back to life and erupted. Global warming would instantly become the least of our worries.
The damage would be very widespread due to the lax building requirements compared west coast earthquake standards. The differing geology of the eastern U.S. allows quake shock waves to travel further. The New Madrid quakes were felt throughout the east coast and violent enough to ring church bells in Boston 1,200 miles away.
