Apple Music reportedly preparing Hi Res Audio streaming for 2016
AppleInsider said:
Apple Music is planning to launch new its Hi-Res music streaming--with higher audio quality than can be delivered through standard earphone jacks--over the next year, according to a report by Japanese site Macotakara.AppleInsider said:
With the visibility of its Apple Music service--which has already gained millions of subscribers in its first few months--paired with its Beats hardware and its control over the Lightning Connector specification, Apple is positioned with the potential to popularize Hi-Res Audio across larger audiences than ever before, and use that as a way to sell iPhones, accessories and subscription access to music labels' content mastered in studio-quality sound.
EDIT: Never mind, I got the link figured out from http://www.macrumors.com/2015/12/20/apple-high-resolution-audio/
AI please add the www to the Macotakara link, that should fix it. -
JP Morgan adds to Apple supply chain worries, cuts early 2016 iPhone estimates

Here we are 3.25 years later staring at AAPL @ $110. Not quite 3% compounded growth/year. That is pathetic given the overall financial performance of Apple. Art Levinson and Tim Cook need to do a far better job of managing the shareholder return of their jobs. Over a $100,000,000,000 of shareholder wasted on buybacks that have done what?
Maybe it is time for Art Levinson to go.
3 years from Sept 2012.
Spent over $130 billion in buybacks/dividends
Recorded over $130 billion in profits in those 3 years.
Grew revenue from $150 billion to almost $235 billion.
Yet the market cap of the stock is worth LESS than 3 years ago.
This is NOT a small problem. If your stock is weak you will lose many employees who rely on stock options as compensation. If your stock is weak, then public perception is the company is weak.
Same goes for GOOG, it has more than doubled in three years.
AMZN same thing, it has well over doubled in three years.
If FB were invested in, it has more than tripled in three years.
AAPL is up around $35 in three years. Even though they are killing it with profits and great products, it is clearly not as good of an investment as the others mentioned above.
Which brings me to your point about employee stock compensation, which is a fairly good point. I bet that thought is not lost on the extremely smart people that all of these companies hire in order to produce their various products. -
RBC cuts Apple price target to $140, cites concerns over supply chain data
Apple needs to fire Tim Cook and go private!
Screw Wall Street!
Am I doing it right? Is that enough outrage or should I have used all caps? Maybe I should toss in an "Apple is DOOOMED!" just for good measure.
Just in case no one gets it, I am making a joke.
Everything is going to be fine @sog35 especially if you are in it for the long haul. Barring a nuclear winter, asteroid, zombie apocalypse, or a land war in Asia (Princess Bride anyone?), Apple will be healthy and around for many many decades. If anything you should see these dips in price as an opportunity to snap up a few shares here and there.
Just because AAPL goes down does not mean you lost thousands of dollars unless you bought high and sold low. But if you are buying and holding, which it sounds like you are, I say buy some more right about now and be happy about it. It will pay off in dividends and when the stock strikes at $200 in a few years you will be happy you bought some today at $110.*

Samsung appeals $548M Apple patent verdict to the U.S. Supreme Court
gatorguy said:Thanks to @anantksundaram and his mention of FossPatents I see that three law professors who previously sided with Apple in other matters support Samsung in this one. They could hardly be considered anti-Apple.

Review: Devialet Phantom is a high-end speaker worth its weight in Kevlar
cnocbui said:*lots of words deleted*
The sand is to deaden the enclosure so as to minimise the sound it radiates, given a speaker driver pushes as much sound out the back as it does out the front. By adding mass to the cabinet you increase it's ability to absorb the unwanted sound energy. The sand is packed in and has little to no room to move and generate any sound due to movement, however there probably is some movement at some scale which is why it works well to limit the transmission of vibrations from the interior to the exterior, but it seems to do it's thing inaudibly. You can shake the speakers and you won't hear anything. The cabinets are very dead in that with music playing there is no discernible sound coming from them.
The system also has a pair of B&W 200mm woofers in a MDF box that I once made for a car I had (not quite so aesthetically pleasing). They are driven with a Nakamichi 140W mono amp. Apart from the 30A Power supply and the cabinets, the system is basically formed from car audio components adapted for home use. It's a secondary system I use in conjunction with the TV with my main HFi being located in another room. Watching any music programs on the TV sounds very nice, as does gaming on it.
I am glad I am not the only one who has re-purposed car audio gear for use inside the home. I have an old JL Audio 12" woofer from one of my first cars that will shake the eyeballs inside your head if you want it too, and it's over 20 years old. Similar to you, I use it for movies and games these days when I want the low hit from explosions and sound effects. I try not go too crazy with it though because my neighbor next door (who lives in a brick house) has mentioned that it vibrates the pictures on their wall
