Calculator improvements? Wow! I've been reading that Apple was going to be dropping its AI bomb on us at WWDC, and I guess this proves the rumors are true! Gosh, a history tape on a calculator app--it's hard to even imagine that kind of advance being possible unitl... oh, maybe 20 years ago. Seriously,I had to check the date on this story twice, thinking I was perhaps reading something from 2004 rather than 2024. 

Hey... better late than never I guess in offering features that other calc apps have had for years. And yes, it will be great to have them! But this really speaks more to the way Apple has allowed its useful, everyday apps like calculator to just languish without timely updates. Of course, iPadOS STILL doesn't even have a calculator app, so there's that.

The "marital" act? That's hilarious. My friend, modern humans have been around for about 300,000 years. Marriage began about 4400 years ago. So what do you think humans were doing in those first 295,000 marriage-free years? 

But yeah, it's just an expensive one percenter toy that will never amount to anything. Will Apple ever innovate anything under Tim Cook? I guess not. 

Apple will never buy Masimo. Its market cap is $7.5 billion and the largest acquisition in Apple history was Beats, at $3 billion -- and THAT deal made a lot of sense for many reasons. Masimo makes no sense for Apple. One part of its business is hospital grade monitoring devices, especially pulse oximetry--and the other part, bizarrely, is high end audo equipment. It paid over a billion dollars in 2022 for Sound United, an umbrella audio company that bought up higher end brands like Bowers & Wilkerson, Denon, Marantz, Classé and others. Sound United had established sales channels for major retailers like Best Buy, which Massimo wanted to leverage for its consumer watch. Seems like a helluva lot to pay for sales channels, though, and investors sent Masimo stock down by over 30% on this news and the stock has never recovered.

Maybe because the notch looks better than Uninhabited Island? I seriously can't wait for Dynamic Island to join Touch Bar and 3-D Press on the scrap heap of Apple interfaces that never caught on.
