Apple CEO Tim Cook gifts President Trump gold & glass commemorative plaque
During an award ceremony with US Ambassador Arthur Gardner, a ceremonial golden telephone was presented to the Cuban dictator, Fulgencio Batista, in 1957.[3] The instrument is currently on display in Museum of the Revolution, formerly Batista's presidential palace, in Havana. -
Tim Cook will be at the White House for US investment announcement
CheeseFreeze said:Apple probably needs to solve the Tarrifs quickly, and therefore agrees to the investment. No doubt, Trump will receive a generous amount in his personal, orange pockets via an intricate chain of corporations.USA, the most corrupt nation in the world. Morally and financially. -
Trump claims TSMC will invest $300 billion in Arizona, pledges semiconductor tariff
Trump et. al. don’t understand the complexity of technology manufacturing especially chip manufacturing. They have nonclue about the scale of TSMC chip fab manufacturing in Taiwan. Even if TSMC invests 300B (and I am sure this is not a formal commitment) in the US, that facility will always be five years behind their Taiwan mega-factory. Likewise the equipment to make the chips involves specialized equipment that needs to be imported and will also be subject to tariffs.
Can’t someone just give him a golf trophy (or bribe) so he can just stop this nonsense? This administration is turning out to be the most business unfriendly administration in history (outside of the oil, coal and steel interests that most have bribed him).
He seems determined to crater the economy. -

Trump trade admin calls Apple's China ties a 'Silicon Valley soap opera'
I have seen analysis in the FT that the manufacturing value of final iPhone assembly is about 5% of the total cost of an iPhone. The idea of jacking this up to 25-40% of the cost of the iPhone for a PR stunt is magical thinking. Apple makes 500-600K phones per day and people like Navarro and Nutlick don’t understand scale.
These people are clowns. And if assembly is automated, it won’t give jobs to JD’s relatives or really much to anyone who doesn’t have a college degree. It will be robotic engineers and technicians. And there are just not enough of them.
