  • Apple SSD in Touch Bar-equipped MacBook Pro fixed to motherboard, not removable

I have been using Macs professionally for twenty years—and like many, feel the divide between Apple and its professional users has become intolerable. Specially given the price point Apple is asking for these new models.

I have been embarrassingly close to being a "fan boy" for Apple... and I want nothing more than continue what has been a great relationship. But, for me personally, I just don't know if that is possible any more. That really upsets me to even say, but that goes to show the connection people have had with Apple. It has been/is, a relationship, unlike the Win-box ilk.

People end marriages for a lot less! Watch out, Apple (tongue in cheek).

    I need another coffee...
you need to realize Apple is a mass market company.

They sell to MASSIVE MARKETS not niche markets like in the past.

The Macbook Pro is designed for a large chunk of the laptop population. You probably are not part of this segment. Seems like you are in the small niche power user segment. sorry.
    Oh yah? Who?
Who are these massive markets wanting a $4000 laptop requiring dongles up the wazoo?
This thing is exclusionary to an even more massive market.
Microsoft is throwing a party man... wake up!
If you can't see that a bunch of millionaires at Apple designed a product for themselves, and not their customers...

Well spoken. And you're not alone. There are hundreds of thousands with the exact same sentiment.

For the first time for these last 30 years, I will not buy the new Mac. 4000€ for a touch bar and 4 dongles is a bit too much...
Why can't people not buy it quietly?

I mean, I don't go online and announce to the internet at large that today, for the first time in 30 years, I'm not going to buy full-fat milk.

But it since I'm here, I'm giving it up for skimmed.

Wow.  Look at that. No one cared.
It's a forum to discuss Apple's direction - gauge consumer responses.
This MacBook, although beautiful, has not been well received by Apple's general customer base.
Apple is seen abandoning the creative 'Pro' market at the same time that Microsoft is embracing it. It's a troubling development to the direction and long term health of Apple.
It also raises questions about the leadership if Apple missed the mark on a flagship product.
Investors are watching carefully as the stock continues to slide since the release.

It's a very impressive and expensive product that has issues and doesn't appeal to any specific market.
That's the hard reality and truth if you tune out the Fanboys and Haters.

His comments about purchasing are completely relevant here.

  • Apple starts charging credit cards for first wave of MacBook Pro with Touch Bar orders

Wait, after all the doom and gloom prognostications by all the pundit "power users" who have been yelling loudly through their social media channels, one would think no one would order the "terrible" new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar.

Or are they all a bunch of dead canaries in a coal mine?
Tech bloggers and “power” users will never learn. They just can’t accept the fact that they are the fringe cases, the outliers, not representative of the Mac universe in general. I think a tech writer nailed it this morning. If Apple had just left off the “Pro” moniker these new machines would be fine with that arrogant crowd.
Some VISA's were processed so it's the golden age of Apple?
    Wut?
Kind of a narrow & short-sighted view. Thats the kind of thinking that sinks companies and gets exec's fired. If the bloggers and power users leave - mind share leaves and then sales leave. If Adobe stops coding CC for Apple... it would pretty much spell the end of the Mac. This would cascade into mobile. Can you not see that?
Especially now with subscription based software - it's so easy to switch.

Apple is and has from day 1 been served well by catering to creative types and power users.

Good move but the fact Apple felt the need to do it suggests there's some pretty fierce backlash with these new Macs. Perhaps more backlash than Apple was expecting,
I think that's right -- in fact I don't see how there could be any other interpretation.

I'd go even a bit further (though this isn't as obviously right, I think it's still probably right) and guess that while online orders might have "broken records", they may have fallen short of Apple's internal projections. Given the pent up demand for an update, breaking the record in and of itself isn't that big of a deal. What matter is the margin of the record breaking. Apple might have looked at that and thought "oops."
Right, there can be no other interpretation because the iPhone wasn't selling in 2007 when Jobs did essentially the same thing by offering $100 credit to previous buyers after reducing the iPhone by $200.
I'm not sure what your point is.
The point is that Apple does this because it responds to customer concerns.  Not because sales "have fallen short of Apple's internal projections".
    :| Seriously dude?
Do you not think there is a breaking point at which a market segment says enough?
I don't know a single pro in the world that cares about 'thin'. They want more battery life and better gpu/cpu's, functionality and convenience.
FFS man, you can line the entire inside of the new spaceship campus with Apple dongles and cables.

It's like Cook is Christopher Walken in the cowbell sketch... "I have a fever - and the only cure is more dongles..."
