  • Kohl's becomes first Apple Pay retailer to link rewards, store cards in one transaction

Merchants are slow to adapt Apple Pay because Apple refuses to share data.

Its time for Tim  Cook to stop with his pious and extreme view of Privacy. Give the merchants the data they deserve.

If Apple opened up the merchant data almost everyone would support Apple Pay.
The merchants can go ahead and keep on wishing for something of mine they have no business having. Let them track sales, do a bit of work on the numbers, and see what customers want. Beyond that, they can just go whistle.

If you want them to have that information, then you go tell them; leave me alone.

More merchants will end up accepting it anyway, perhaps holding their noses, but it's better for them to get the sales than biting their noses off for spite. And they know it.

Only one frustrating thing has held me back from buying a lovely MacBook 12".
That's the single external port, which I occasionally need for more than one function.   Of course that's IMPOSSIBLE, UGH!!!  :s
Someone tell josha about USB-C adapters. Lots of them out there, including docking stations.

Even USB-C power pass-through to let him recharge the Macbook and connect something else at the same time.

  • Apple will attempt data extraction on iPhone of teen lost at sea, report says

rob53: I would rather Apple handle all of the data extraction too, and I would rather they pull data from phones confiscated from dead terrorists instead of fighting for the rights of dead terrorists.
Apple was in no way "fighting for the rights of dead terrorists", that's just stupid on stilts.

If Apple had done what the FBI was demanding, it would have had serious consequences, potentially weakening the security of user's financial, medical and personal information in general, not just in a given jurisdiction, but for users (not just Apple's customers, either) outside the U.S. as well.

  • FBI can't unlock anything newer than Apple's iPhone 5c, Comey reveals

I still think all this is moot.  Eventually all iPhones in the wild will have TouchID and even if the terrorist blows himself up, take severed thumb, place on iPhone and viola... unlocked.

    Am I missing something here?

TouchID doesn't work with dead digits?

    get back to work.
Work? Isn't "work" something he'll have to do after he moves out of mom's basement?

    Not going to happen.
