  • Two of four Thunderbolt 3 ports in new 13" MacBook Pro with Touch Bar have reduced speeds

I have absolutely no technical knowledge on the subject, but the article says the low-power Intel processors provide full bandwidth on all 4 ports on the 13" Pro without Touch Bar. If there is a technical reason for reduced bandwidth on the two right ports of the 13" Pro (as opposed to it being an economy measure), it seems more like the Touch Bar is responsible. Perhaps it absorbs (uses) some of the PCIe-Lanes you describe.
If the article says the MBP without Touchbar has four USB-C ports, it's wrong.

The base 13" MBP has two USB-C ports.

  • Apple announces thinner MacBook Pro with Touch Bar, Touch ID, USB-C ports starting at $179...

"I never thought I'd say this, but having experienced Steve's wrath about ``this is sh**! fix it!'' he would have tossed this one into the can and said, ``integrate it into the keyboard with hot swappable icons with custom command combinations, preload for apps ready, etc.''

Right. After all, who could possibly use things like the slider controls that the Touch Bar supports nicely? Better to limit yourself to only dynamically changing keys instead. (Maybe they'll come along in the future, too, which could be useful as an adjunct, not as a replacement, though.)

"So instead of being able to touch type and keep looking at the screen or looking at the screen and touching what I want, I now have to keep looking down at the thin touch strip on the keyboard to work? That seems very inefficient."

Look at the demos again. It's not either/or. The touchpad/screen functionality doesn't go away, nor do you have to use the touch bar if you don't want to.

Having used desktop touch displays, I know I have no interest in "looking at the screen and touching what I want", unless you're referring to to looking at the screen and using the trackpad to "touch". Which still works the way it currently does anyway.

As far as "looking down at the thin touch strip on the keyboard to work", when I'm using this laptop, the touch screen would be easily visible at the bottom of my visual field while looking at the screen.

  • US government bans defunct Galaxy Note 7 from all flights citing fire threat

I loved my Apple ///.  Visi[c]alc on an Apple /// was awesome.  Not to mention ProDOS!  :)
You would have liked the final Apple ///: 512K RAM and mouse support. Ended up with one of them at home for a while before I left Apple. If you gave the external (10MB!) hard drive time to spin up, switching on the Apple /// had you ready to work in under five seconds.

  • FBI investigation of Minn. mall mass stabbing may rekindle iPhone encryption debate

What about not shooting to kill, but incapacitating the suspect like we do in Europe and other civilised countries?
What experience do you have with shooting under high-pressure, fast moving conditions? To say nothing of coming into a situation with nine people already stabbed and bleeding?

Everything you've learned from watching TV is wrong. Seriously.

  • Jet black iPhone 7 potentially vulnerable to scratching, Apple admits

Shouldnt phone prices in general be going down? $1000 a bit too much.
So get a cheaper phone. There are lots of them out there.
