FaceID is awful! I have to type in my passcode the majority of the time to access my phone. Need directions while you’re driving? Better pull over because you have to fully interact with the phone to unlock it to get directions. This is the iPhone I strongly dislike!
What are you doing accessing your phone while you’re driving? That’s illegal in most states so quit complaining.
Um, as I said, looking for directions. I guess you never used a GPS before?  With TouchID... hey Siri I need directions to 123 any street. Siri responds asking to unlock phone. Touch the fingerprint scanner and off we go. Eyes never go off the road. FaceID ask the same question and now have to pull over to unlock phone. Also I must commend you that you have never, ever touched your phone while driving!
I have an iPhone X and use Siri in this exact manner in my car. I've never had to do a FaceID in order to start navigation. It works in exactly the same manner as my previous iPhones. "Hey Siri, take me to XYZ" will find the location and immediately start navigation.

Edit: If you go into FaceID & Passcode settings, you can allow Siri when locked which makes it much more useful as an assistant.

  • Vietnamese firm trips up iPhone X's Face ID with elaborate mask & makeup

Well, they had better be good and get the phone to unlock in less than 5 attempts.

  • Apple publishes white paper explaining usage and security of iPhone X Face ID

For Apple Pay purchases in stores, users have to confirm intent to pay by a double-tap of the side button, followed by a Face ID authentication, before placing the iPhone X near the contactless reader. Users will have to reauthenticate with Face ID if they change a different Apple Pay payment method, but will not need to tap the button again.
    "Confirm intent to pay"?

Currently, when paying with Apple Pay, I simply hold my iPhone near the payment terminal and my credit card is automatically displayed, I confirm my touching my finger to the Home button and that's it.

With FaceID will I have to hold the iPhone near the payment terminal, then double-tap the side button, then authenticate with my face and then hold the iPhone to the reader again?  This seems like a slightly more cumbersome procedure.  I suppose I could double-tap the side button while pulling the iPhone from my pocket, authenticate and then hold to the reader, but will that work?

Overall, it doesn't matter terribly as I usually use my Apple Watch for Apple Pay.  However, twice lately (at Big Y) my Apple Watch hasn't been successful and I've had to use my iPhone as a backup.
Sounds like sh**. I’ve been noticing TouchID more now and yes it’s easier to just look at the screen for locked apps but Apple Pay seems like a pain in comparison.
I use ApplePay all the time with my iPhone6. I have multiple cards enrolled but usually just use the default one. To save time at the checkout, I always double click the home button and pre-authenticate with my finger print whilst the staff member is ringing up my stuff. I just need to hold near the terminal and it's done. I can't see how this is any different to the FaceID/ apple watch method.

  • Apple's iPhone loses out in new contactless payment support for Beijing public transit

ApplePay would be too slow for public transit use, especially in Asia where people are streaming through the fare gates. Having to stand there and adjust your finger on the button until it accepts is way slower than the typical NFC acceptance.

Double click home button and pre-authorise your finger. You then have 60s to tap against a contactless machine and the transaction completes as fast, if not faster than a card.

  • Samsung's Galaxy Note 8 seen launching in September against Apple's 'iPhone 8'

Out of the 1000+ different smartphones that Samsung has launched in the last 10 years, how many did explode? People in real world know the answer to that question and acting accordingly. What is so surprising about it?

If one of the iPhone models has a similar huge problem, of course it would affect Apple negatively lot more because of 2 reasons.
    1. Apple has not yet launched 1000 different models for that to be considered as one off.
    2. Samsung note series phones are a niche anyway, not a mainstream lineup (like the S series) . But iPhones are All mainstream phones. So the impact would be greater.

Given these facts, what is so abnormal about what happened?
The difference is that it was a catastrophic event for Samsung causing worldwide recalls and travel bans. The only saving grace was it was a phone and not a piece of equipment destined for an airplane causing them to drop out of the sky.
