  • New study finds that Night Shift does not improve sleep quality or quantity

I’m just here to comment that I’m amused that this story was posted by someone called “Amber.” (Maybe I’m just easily amused.) :)

  • Apple to debut 8-inch foldable iPhone in 2023, Kuo says

    Again with the folding? Tch.

We are decades away from material science that allows semi-rigid materials to bend without breaking. (I know about smart metals.) This is the main reason we have: hinges. So: a flip phone? Maybe I’d allow it. But foldable? Enjoy your cracks, ridges, and stress-fractures.

Come on, people. Don’t be weird.

  • Tim Cook says work from home will remain 'very critical' after pandemic ends

Correct. Working from home is now demystified, and companies have seen productivity levels maintained (or exceeded in some cases). Side benefits are greater accessibility for those who have trouble commuting physically or otherwise, fewer cars in the road, lessened need to live in expensive, crowded urban hubs, etc. The greater flexibility is beneficial to companies and employees. We shouldn’t just forget that as the viral risk levels decline.

Plus some people just hate offices. Hi!

  • Apple launches new wireless Magic Keyboard for Mac with Touch ID

I still use a wired keyboard, because I don’t like charging basic peripherals all the time (I know, I’m a monster). Wired + backlit would have sold this for me.

  • Compared: Apple's 2020 iPad Air versus 2020 11-inch iPad Pro

“So rather than driving the entire display at top speed, the iPad Pro assesses where that speed will give you the most benefit. If you're drawing on it with the Apple Pencil, then the area right under your fingers will refresh at 120Hz, but the app's unchanging tool palette will not.”

Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think that’s how variable refresh rate / ProMotion works. Today’s technology can’t isolate various parts of the screen for multiple refresh rates at once. Instead, the entire screen either ramps up or down depending on the UI element with the most demand at the time. If you’re staring at the Springboard then the screen can slow down. If you touch a pencil to the screen then the entire screen must speed up. It’s still an overall energy savings though.
