  • A11 Bionic processor in iPhone 8, iPhone X contains first Apple-designed GPU, new secure e...

My dream is for them to begin development on a gaming chip for Apple TV. A small efficient one that can compete with PS4 Pro etc.

I have been hearing that same line "It appears that silicon is reaching limits, imposed by the laws of physics." since the mid-1990's. Yet, mysteriously year after year; we see performance improvements in the 30-50% range. Those improvements do not sound anything like hitting a limit, improvements in the 2-5% range sound like you are banging against a limit.
    That's because people lack creativity.

the other day idiots online were arguing with me about cars. Their argument was that cars have reached their innovation limits and there was no where else to go.....

  • Starbucks Powermat charging pads getting software upgrade for iPhone 8, iPhone X

Perfect excuse to bring up a vision I had the other day.

I usually think of crazy acquisitions and reasons they'll work. The other day I was thinking of the keynote(the Qi part/Qinote) and it dawned on me....Apple acquire Starbucks.

It's been in front of our faces all along. Starbucks is SO Apple, from their simple cafe designs and innovations to the endless barrage of Apple devices used by its customers.

    Why though?

For one Apple can innovate the Cafes. Adding Qi support to the center of every table For iDevices and MacBooks, yes future MacBooks! Now MacBook users will never wanna leave.

    Alternate Apple gathering spot.
Apple wants to bring people together at their stores but wouldn't that be a little crowded? I mean they're already crowded without special days.

    A Genius Bar
Starbucks in the back of Apple Stores just works. Why not make the Genius Bar an actual bar? They just fit together. Just imagine it for a second....

    Apple Pay reward$
More Apple Pay integration and Wallet adoption. Offer rewards and loyalty. In turn Apple adds profit. Simple as that. Starbucks is a big money maker.

    Brand strength
The acquisition would make Amazon's Whole Foods but look like child's play. Amazon had zero connection to Whole Foods. The seeds are already planted for Apple Starbucks. They strangely attract Apple devices, are very Apple like, Wallet support etc.
Throw in promotions like Starbucks gift cards with Apple products and you'll have a sweet ecosystem outside technology.

Lastly Steve Jobs dreamed of an Apple Cafe. Make it a reality!

  • Face, the future: the new touch-less ID of iPhone X

Wow, talk about a defensive, brown-nosed article. What will you write this time next year when Apple 'triumphantly' reintroduce TouchID under the screen? Can't wait to find out!
    iKnockoff user detected!!

it amazes me how iPhoney users find a way to bitch at everything. If Apple reintroduced TouchID, SO WHAT?? You're literally bitching that Apple will make the iPhone experience better for some users?

iPhoney users are bitching about Apple upgrading HD content to 4k free of charge twisting the act into a negative.

I couldn't  make such stupidity up.....

  • Apple has been 'all-in' on iPhone X Face ID replacing Touch ID for over a year - report

"Report". I clicked thinking it was a Tim Cook interview or statement from Apple only to find a tweet from a 3rd party. Fine this under "rumor".

Gruber is just trying to help them save face. He knows as well as everyone else that they intended for TouchID to be there. They filed patents. They bough LuxView, they bought up patents from Privaris. All to do scanner under the display. He might be right that it never comes back now, because they never want to admit a mistake so publicly.

But if you look at how clumsy the gestures are to compensate for removing the home button altogether (instead of adding a virtual button) and these are gestures that have been used and extended for entirely different purposes for years and recently and how clumsy the demo was and think about use cases, then it is pretty apparent, if one is being honest, that this was a concession.

    "Save face"

That's laughable. Apple doesn't need to save face - they never publicly declared they were going that direction. They've mentioned time and time again how much they do that they end up saying no and shelving it. It could very well be that they DID get Touch ID working under the screen but decided not to use it, because they thought Face ID would be a better system especially with the advancement of AR over the passed few years.

Furthermore, patenting something does not mean it will ever become a product. Apple has many patents relating to embedding different sensors into displays and rarely do any see the light of day - embedding a camera and speaker, etc. And buying a specific company does not always mean they want it for a specific product or technology. Sometimes they really want the talent - P.A. Semi was a company that designed PowerPC CPU's... Apple bought them for the talent to develop their Ax series of SoCs.
Yes, save face. Even if he is right and they decided to go with an inferior authentication flow over a year ago, he is just doing damage control. i.e. helping them save face. That is his job, after all.

And I can believe they would make that decision. I think they had every intention of having TouchID in the glass. But I also think that either they couldn't get it working as well as the Home Button implementation or they realized no one would use FaceID if TouchID was an option...or both. But now that they have gone with just FaceID, there is little chance of going back and adding TouchID in glass. That would be acknowledging a mistake. So, that's where their army of damage control "writers" comes in. Grub leads the pack.
Apple NEVER stated they would place TouchID under the display. Gruber isn't an Apple employee he's just commenting on rumors.

It's impossible for him to help Apple save face in something they never even acknowledged.

This sir, is where you turned your brain off.

  • Google set to challenge Apple's iPhone 8 & X with Oct. 4 announcement of 'Pixel 2'

Why are we giving this iPhone knockoff press?

seriously let's stop with iKnockoff news. The more we ignore them the more idiots will come to grips with reality. Android phones are cheap knockoff alternatives to iPhone, NOT iPHONES!!!!

Headlines like "Google Pixel will challenge iPhone", "Galaxy X a great contender to iPhone" etc. give the impression that these knockoff devices are real.

JUST IGNORE THEM. We never gave those cheap iPod knockoffs press so why are we doing it now???
