  • Apple insists to EU antitrust regulators that it runs five App Stores, not one

Apple is correct in stating there are five stores because the software available in each store only works on a specific platform. This is like saying a company that owns a pharmacy, sporting goods store, hardware store, grocery store and electronics store is required to call all of them one store, maybe called PSHGE, instead of five different stores carrying different products. There are many companies that have multiple store fronts with different names that keep their stores separate. (don't ask me specifics, because I don't care to research this but take a company like Whirlpool, who makes all kinds of brands of household products, each having a store under the brand's name)

As for anything the EU does, it's time they quit trying to run another country's product line. I'm sorry but anything related to current computers and operating systems rarely is created in EU countries anymore. Sure, you can find a few high tech companies in the EU but not as many as before and nowhere near as many as in the USA.
While I actually side with Apple on most of the claims of anticompetitive behavior, your analogy is wrong. It’s pretty much BS to say they are different stores. The more correct analogy would be to say they were like a GameStop. They sell games for X Box PlayStation and Nintendo…different platforms, but it’s still one marketplace. I think it also undermines their argument because many apps are universal. I can buy an app for my iPhone and it will magically appear on my iPad or Apple TV. They even advertise this on the app listings, saying what other devices they will work on. It’s all one big marketplace.

  • American Express doesn't seem that interested in an Apple Card partnership

We're not interested in an Amex partnership either lol. Mastercard all the way.
You understand that Mastercard isn't an issuing bank, right? It's a payment network. The Apple Card its a Mastercard currently. AMEX is both a network and an issuing bank. Even if the card continues to be a Mastercard, it will still need a bank like Chase or Wells Fargo to actually issue the card and service the accounts.

Good, because I see no value in having an American Express card.  They're not accepted most places any more, probably because their merchant fees are exorbitant.
That's a load of BS...I put 99% of all my spending in the US on my primary AMEX card and have maybe been turned down by 1 or two merchants out of hundreds and hundreds and it's usually some chain that has a very exclusive VISA or MC partnership. AMEX is accepted virtually everywhere. You may not personally want to use one, but it's simply factually incorrect that they're "not accepted at most places anymore"

  • Apple's iPhone hardware subscription could arrive by March

I’m on that plan and I think I can explain. Even though on the surface it looks very similar, the current version is really a disguised financing plan by a third party bank. Apple integrates the process really strongly so if feels like they’re the one selling you monthly payments but they really get payment for the phone in full. You pay monthly payments to the bank that does the financing and at the end of a year, you have the option to send the phone in and the bank and Apple have a backend deal where Apple pays them the balance due and then can turn around and refurbish the phone and resell it. You can also keep the phone and keep making payments and if you pay it off you keep it.

This new product seems to be a true subscription run by Apple where they charge monthly and you are renting the device.

Isn’t there already a similar program where you get a new phone every year while making a continuing monthly payment? How does that compare?

  • Apple Store crash victims sue Apple over '100% preventable' crash

Do the other stores in the mall have large sheets of glass for entrances? Why does Apple have barriers at many of their other stores? How many instances has Apple had of vehicles used in smash in grabs at their stores over the years? If stores "have barriers installed behind their stores in for theft and loss prevention," why not in the front which is much more vulnerable, especially in this instance with a glass wall? There will be depositions and paperwork looked over with a fine-tooth comb in search of answers to all those questions and more. This is just the beginning of the lawsuits with at least two employees already suing (although they're currently not suing Apple, just the driver and the property owners).
What does having large glass windows have anything to do with this? It’s a strip mall. They all have large primarily glass entrances. That’s how retail stores work. They want to show off what they have inside. This accident didn’t happen because they have large windows. It happened because some moron, jammed his foot on the gas and went through an area he shouldn’t have. Apple is not to blame for any of this. This is purely a cash grab by greedy lawyers.

How many crash and grabs at stores for Nantucket Kids, Loft, Allbirds, Cava, etc? Crash & Grabs have been happening at Apple stores for more than a decade. Some stores more than once. The Apple Store glass walls are nowhere near the same as other stores' glass entrances. They're basically large sheets of glass as in the Hingham store. It's a miracle it took this long for the something like to this happen, intentionally or not.
This wasn’t a crash and grab. This was an idiot who had a car accident. Apple has 0% fault here. Anyone trying to justify blame upon them for this is insane. That guy could have easily crashed through the front windows of any of the stores on that strip. It wouldn’t have made the news if not for the fact it was Apple. This is a non story and a BS lawsuit.
