iPhone 15 to require certified accessories for full access to USB-C
SF90 said:In short: this is a solution in search of a problem, to pad Apple’s pocket. If you want a tested and certified cable, the USB-IF already does that. My main gripe about Apple cords is that they’re not a guarantee of quality. Lightning cables that came with the iPhone cost $20, and last me at most a year before their soft coatings tear. Monoprice cables have a lifetime warranty but I’ve been using them for 5+ years without having to replace them. Literally paying more for an inferior product.Your Monoprice cables are MFi certified already. Nobody ever claimed that Apple's included cables are the most rugged cables available.M68000 said:
Good post, but what if the phone is able to recognize if the cable is “MFI” and then changes how it works ? That let’s Apple go usb-c but still have control on cabling. Wonder if that is possible?

Apple Music violates EU antitrust laws, $39 billion fine possible
"We urge the Commission to reach a swift decision in this case to protect consumers and restore fair competition on the iOS platform."They act like the iOS platform is public domain or free use. It's Apple's platform! -
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra didn't beat the iPhone 13 Pro in camera test
lkrupp said:saarek said:One of my friends, who happens to be black, was showing off his S23 Ultra to me today. He bought it for one simple reason, the iPhone takes pictures of him that are about on par with most other smartphones whereas the S23 Ultra takes pictures that really capture his skin tone and features.
I have to admit, eye balling pictures he'd taken on his Samsung vs a recent picture I had taken on my iPhone that he did look better on the Samsung Pictures. This is more subjective, but I can determine the color accuracy and other aspects of a photo if I am the one who took the shot. These days, for example, I can immediately compare the photo to the real world and see for myself if the colors are over or under saturated or how much shadow detail there is. However, the other variable is the screen on which you are viewing the image. The shot could look great on the phone, but look totally different on a monitor or TV that is not properly calibrated. A modern iPhone is the closest most people will ever get to a reference standard screen. With music, there is rarely a reference standard available. Any studio work is the creation of the artist/producer that we certainly aren't there when it happens. The most we can hope for is our equipment and speakers can accurately reproduce what was recorded, as the artist intended. -
How Apple captured Generation Z, and how it will hang on to them
dewme said:The “Gen Z” thing bothers me because it seems to signify the “last” generation, as if some cataclysmic event will stop further generations from existing. Maybe it will rollover back to “Generation A” or do we move to multiple characters? Gen Z Rev 1? Who makes this crap up?The nomenclature was limited when it was decided to go from Baby Boomer to Gen X. Now we're out of letters, unless they go back to A like you said. LOL

Apple working on how to read back iMessages in the sender's voice

I suppose this means we’ll no longer feel obliged to respond to Siri with “I love you too Siri” when Siri transcribes texts into voice.
