  • How to use the Apple Maps Library feature in iOS 18

Not a fan of the latest update.

Personally, I have no use for Libraries or Guides and would like the ability to hide them from the main screen. Guides is irrelevant for me. Major cities that I am not that close to. I would just turn it on if I went someplace new and maybe want to check it out. Just too cluttered on the screen.
Also, why is the display now in dark mode only?

Update: For some reason, dark mode is enabled when looking at the satellite map. All three of the other maps will use the light setting. Hopefully, it will be fixed in a future update.

  • Consumers stick to the edges of Apple's 'good, better, best' iPad pricing philosophy

"That's the highest share the basic model has seen in five years, possibly pointing to a more cost-conscious wave of buyers."

I think the later comment about the iPad being "good enough" for casual users is a big thing too.

Personally, I jumped on the first 9.7" Pro when it was released. I was upgrading from an iPad 2, and found the price point acceptable and liked the upgrades it brought from the standard model. Fast forward to late 2024 and the 9.7" Pro was getting a bit long in the tooth. I debated between the 10th gen and an iPad Air, but ultimately chose the 10th gen. Based on how I use my iPad, I couldn't justify the price difference. Especially, since I bought it at Target during some ridiculous promotion. I absolutely would have spent the extra dollars had I perceived a real benefit for the way I use it. I also did tell myself, that based on the deal, I would be happy to pass it along to a family member if I did need to upgrade. To this point, I have not felt the need.

Ikea has stopped using disposable batteries, including the CR2032, in its devices.

Yet, the image here shows AAA batteries.

  • There's not a big rush to buy the iPhone 16e yet

    Oh, please!
Why would anyone expect this model to sell out or be in short supply on opening day?!

It was released outside of the usual September hype and its media coverage.
It is not targeted to power users or enthusiasts who will want to upgrade and order on day 1.
I would bet the vast majority of customers for this model don't yet know about it or will never know about it until they need/want to buy a new phone for whatever reason. The typical SE customer is not eagerly awaiting the release date of a new phone.

  • iPhone 16e doesn't have MagSafe

Was planning to purchase this new phone, but having just learned about the absence of MagSafe means it is a pass for me.  Would be nice to learn of Apple’s reasoning behind this omission.  I would pay a few more bucks for MagSafe.  Sad.

Um. Costs. There are other models if MagSafe is a deal breaker.
