  • Uber loses license to operate in London over public safety and security concerns

The Wall Street crowd has been chomping at the bit for a $70B Uber IPO frenzy and is NOT happy about any of this. They seem to be going out of their way to hype the guy coming in from Expedia to takeover and fix everything and are no doubt responsible for steering SoftBank.jp towards a deal without giving careful analysis that they're truly going to be investing in a "turnaround story". Once the investors have been able to cash out the equity they have already spent, nobody is going to give a damn about Uber and the forces against it will rip it to shreds.

The only thing that really matters is that if someone gets into a ride share and something bad happens (sitting in vomit, food delivery put on dirty blanket on vomit, a rape, murder, accident, etc.), as soon as the word "Uber" is mentioned, everyone will say "that's too bad, what did you expect?"  If that happened in a Lyft or a regular cab, there would be genuine outrage.

  • First iPhone 8 teardown reveals few internal design changes [u]

Make you wonder if they ever get out into the real world where people are constantly looking to charge their iPhones.
    This.

Worse, they seek a homogenous culture (Infinite Loop should be called Feedback Loop), like the companies in Japan and Korea as opposed to simple uniform professionalism like most tech companies.

My 2013 Mac Pro (trash can) just died. My main work computer. I have no idea what to replace it with. I am just staring at the Apple website in complete amazement.
It is too long a wait to rent a replacement at $400/mo and a used one is likely to fail sooner rather than later. Terrible spot Apple has left you in. Talk to a store manager and let them know your interest in updating to an iMac Pro. Perhaps they will give you a loaner or comp your trash can repair.

OMG! You mean we paid $50,000 for a Xerox Star workstation, laser printer and XNS/ITP network that weren't real products? https://youtu.be/jXtj6yWsl1g

  • What to expect from Apple's Sept. 12 event: iPhone X & 8, Apple Watch with LTE, 4K Apple T...

Remember to do a (coffee) shot every time they use PHENOMENAL or AMAZING in a sentence.
A fist-pump is required every time they say: AND WE CAN'T WAIT
If I was in my mid-late sixties and had finally conquered the world, I'd go down (like MySpace) wearing a big grin too.  :D

Bonus for applauding an opulent building that you helped pay for (unless, of course, you are a stakeholder or old enough to understand how badly they deserved the ultimate reversal of fortune).

But seriously...In light of Irma and Harvey, perhaps Apple will consider postponing the event, rather than show up and announce things only "really" available for pre back order anyway. It could be a welcome distraction for the people following along on their smartphones, 12 hours away from home, with limited power but it cloud also make millions of people feel disrespected and be aggravated to be missing out on Apple. Thousands more seem likely to viscerally react to talk about "water proof" watches that run out of power after a couple days. Bad timing.
