  • Apple urges court to ignore Epic's anti-steering complaint

Apple needs to get smacked down HARD over this.
Over what, specifically? They have complied with the court order.

are you a Sweeney sock puppet?

  • Apple hardware chief John Ternus insists parts pairing is not evil

    jdw said:
"Why is it a bad thing," Ternus?  Because you aren't considering the long term implications of what happens when a device gets so old Apple stops making parts for it.  And while one can argue that for an iPhone, it matters less than a Mac, the fact remains that your are effectively killing off old devices that cannot get official parts anymore after a certain number of years.
That “certain number of years” you refer to is SEVEN. Seven years after a given model is discontinued, Apple no longer makes parts for it.

That’s typically a repairable lifespan of a decade. Longer, for common third-party parts like screens.

Apple is not “killing off devices.” If you are using a decade-old iPhone, you have waaaaaay bigger issues than being able to get parts.

  • Underused VPN by Google One service is headed for the graveyard

At this rate, they’re going to have to buy more virtual land to expand the Google Graveyard …

But more seriously, who would use a VPN from a company whose entire business model is collecting information about everything you do? To say there’s a trust issue with Google VPN would be putting it mildly.

t’s like if Meta/Facebook started a VPN, it would get laughed off the market … oh wait.

  • New iPads Pro, iPad Air, and USB-C accessories expected in early May

Wow, $1500 for an iPad Pro being considered the low end of price spectrum? and that's probably for the entry level storage capacity, that means the 1 and 2 Tb variants are likely to hit the $2K mark for a device that people mostly use to read the news and watch movies, now you are talking real inflation.
Someone who bought an iPad Pro to “read news and watch movies” is a bloomin’ idiot. There are WAY cheaper iPads for that.

The “Pro” moniker is meant to suggest that a) you have a clear idea of what you’re going to do with it, and b) that you may be making money doing that thing you primarily do with it. See also “MacBook Pro” and “Mac Pro.”

Much of the alleged price increase is being blamed on the move to OLED screens, which are indeed expensive. Stop by your local TV dealer and compare the price of OLED TVs to non-OLED TVs of the same size. And TVs are “just for watching” stuff.

I haven’t done a survey, but I suspect that people willing to pay the higher-price of the iPad Pro compared to an Air or a regular iPad … wait for it … have a reason why they’re doing that.

I certainly did, and mine has paid for itself several times over.

Hum. Now I'm confused. What is happening in "the first week of May"? Is that when Apple stores will prepare; or is that when the long-awaited hardware will arrive/be announced?
Both things are happening. Apple Stores will be preparing for new iPad Pros to arrive in the same week that Apple announces them. As is typically the case.
