Apple is back to lobbying against right-to-repair bills
The parts pairing is a good idea I support for some of the reasons listed above. But Apple should probably pre-emptively allows for things like glass and battery swaps that aren’t tied to parts pairing, unless it wants the EU — who have demonstrated a stunning lack of care about user security and stolen-phone protection — to mandate that as well.
They should also have their lawyers come up with a STRONG disclaimer that warns users that any repairs not completed by AASPs or Apple itself voids the warranty and may potentially void the security of the iPhone, depending on the work being done. A battery swap or glass repair shouldn’t be a big deal, BUT shady stuff is possible when a unlicensed tech has access to the phone’s innards. -
Fake LastPass password manager app unearthed on Apple's App Store
Assuming LastPass followed normal developer procedure and reported it to Apple first, I am pretty shocked and disappointed that Apple didn’t suspend the app immediately after hearing from the company, and that LastPass had time to issue a press release, and says it is “actively working” to get the fake app taken down.It sure looks from here like the App Store review team has dropped the ball on this one, and I hope that by the time I finish typing this comment they will have taken down the imposter app. If not, they are giving a green light to others to try putting imposter apps in the App Store. -
Apple TV+ renews Idris Elba's high-octane thriller 'Hijack'
Rick601 said:Enjoyed the first few episodes but toward the end it got pretty woke and the hero pretty lame. He went from being Reacher to being in touch with his feminine side. Perfect for the new Hollywood and Apple unfortunately. -
Apple sells up to 180,000 Apple Vision Pro, says Kuo
I am surprised to learn that the commenters here do not understand context very well. Specifically, when Mr Kuo said Apple had an active user base of 1.2 billion, he was not referring to just the US, but to the worldwide base, DURRRRR.
I understand he’s talking about a product that is, at present, only available in the US, but that is VERY likely to change over the next few months, so thinking ahead (AS HE WAS) and looking at the potential customer base, the initial strong reception bodes well for expanding availability as production ramps up, even if sales have now settled down in the US to what I expect will be normal niche levels for another year or so.Apple **clearly** believes the other big players will be coming out with similar headsets over the next two years, and that such a product will move into a certain segment of “mainstream” popularity. I believe they’re right — Meta is already busy on the next Oculus, and you can bet Google won’t miss out on the opportunity to show GIANT DATA COLLECTING ADS,, so I think you can count on at least three if not four (Microsoft) major new headsets available in the next year or so.

How to tell if the Apple Watch you're about to buy has pulse oximetry
