I really hope this conflict can be resolved sooner rather than later if for no other reason that when it comes to iPhones, Qualcomm  chips are far superior to Intels.
So what Apple now got from their “diversification strategy”: commercial bans / legal issues with QualComm for $30 (already passed onto customers in $100...300 overpriced handsets), LTE/Cellular issues, to be solved with numerous undocumented stability iOS updates, no modem supplier diversification, and at least 1 year delay for 5G.
(which I hardly care about, but can be deadly harmful in a technology-push market where they struggle to differentiate themselves)
Using their extensive outsourcing experience with Intel & lagging MacBook cpu’s...
    NOT
Why am I willing to pay $100 to $300 more for an Apple handset?

    1. Privacy; Google makes most of its money from ads based on massive data mining. Google’s mines data from “free” services like Gmail, Chrome, Google Maps & Google Drive for ads.

    https://bgr.com/2016/02/11/why-facebook-and-google-mine-your-data-and-why-theres-nothing-you-can-do-to-stop-it/ ;

This making money off of people’s private information allows Google to give away Android to OEMs for free.
Result; cheaper Android phones based on the lack of privacy.
    - Apple does very little data mining. Outside of App Store searches and the News app, Apple does not mine user data and protects user privacy.
Apple needs to make its money another way.
Apple by contrast makes most of its money from hardware sales especially from the iPhone.

Result; Apple needs to charge more for its hardware.

    2. Service and support; Apple has top notch customer service and tech support. Apple extends the life of its iOS devices with OS updates many more years compared with Android OEMs.

Apple screws suppliers, all big companies do it to some extent, some are just more aggressive than other. Supermarkets push milk farmers to the point they can hardly make any money. Apple killed GT advanced technologies because it couldn't meet apples demands, screwed some other imaging company to although forgot the name.

Apple is a super aggressive greedy bully, will do whatever it takes to keep generating its billions. Remember they were going super nuclear on android, well that worked out well for them, they lost that war. Apple now trying to screw over Qualcomm, because all they are thinking about is their share price and retaining their ridiculous profit margins.
This comment reminds me of the many people on YouTube who think the earth is flat.
** First; The argument takes irrelevant information about milk prices, only one failed tech supplier and concludes that all Apple suppliers are being screwed over (“hardly make any money”).

    * Fact; Samsung Electronics is a major supplier to Apple.
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samsung_Electronics
    - Someone must prove that Samsung Electronics’ panel and semiconductor divisions “can hardly make any money” because of Apple.
    - Of course no one can prove this charge about all Apple suppliers because the accusation is based on uninformed nonsense.

** Second; the above comment makes a statement by Jobs about Android to conclude that Apple made war on all Android OEMs.
    Wrong.
    * Fact; in the battles between Android OEMs, Apple was not the only company to start filing patent lawsuits.
Motorola and Nokia sued Apple first.
    https://www.cnet.com/news/this-time-motorola-sues-apple-over-patents/
    https://www.zdnet.com/article/nokia-files-patent-suit-against-apple-over-iphones/ ;

This alone shows that the situation involved several tech companies going after each other and not simply Jobs attacking Android OEMs.
And Apple was able to settle with HTC early in the process (2012). That doesn’t fit the claim that Apple started a nuclear / completely destructive war, against Android OEMs.

Funny how the other apple focused website has the similar article but their headline is slanted in the opposite direction making the Xr seem like a failure...but with the exact same data

Most of the tech media trashing Apple gets views / $.
What is missing from the imo dumb headline you posted is that in 2017 the iPhone 8+ was the biggest screen phone which = more sales.
in 2018 the XS Max has the biggest screen pulling sales from the XR.

  • France to hit Apple, other tech giants with new digital tax in January

These taxes, only targeted at companies from one nation, are a type of tariff. Several countries have extra tariffs/fees for Apple products.
These cost barriers are a trade war tactic. They slow down trade and overall will eventually cause a weaker economy with the countries involved.

Anyone who thinks that adoption rate is unrealistic probably doesn't own a pair or know people who do.  My girlfriend just bought five pairs of these as Xmas gifts for people who work in her office, as they are *transformative* for people who work on the phone like they all do.  A doctor friend I had dinner with last night said that a number of admins in her ward were just issued them.  They are phenomenal.  I've been holding off pending release of the first major revision and I'm feeling extremely impatient about it.
We have several pairs, yes. While we agree that they are phenomenal, 110 million units sold in a single year isn't. Those numbers from Kuo aren't total in the field, they are sales figures per year.

110 million in the field in total by 2021? I'll go with that. 110 million sold in 2021 alone seems improbable. That's the think about analysts predicting sales numbers for products that don't get broken out individually -- we'll never know if they were right, and they can make the predictions and claim that they got it right without fear.

Albeit anecdotal, I’ve seen far more AirPods in the field than Apple Watches. And, I’ve seen them increase much more quickly than the watch.
I’ve had the opposite experience (maybe because I’m not in school, I don’t belong to a gym & I don’t participate in runner/biking groups).
I’ve seen multiple Apple Watches in the field (shopping & at doctor’s offices).
I’ve seen zero AirPods in public; where people need to pay attention to where they are going & are interacting with people.
In public an Apple Watch is a device which can simply be worn in almost any situation where it might be useful as needed (for quietly getting notifications or quickly making payments).
