  • EU hits back at Apple withholding Apple Intelligence from the region

Intentionally omitting features as retaliation?  Yeah, Apple is gonna LOVE the multi-billion fine for this little stunt.

The EU is done playing.  Apple will behave, or they will PAY.
The rules are so vague it's nearly impossible to comply and the interoperability requirement is insane. I cannot run Mac programs natively on Windows, so shouldn't Microsoft be forced to make Windows interoperable with Mac app executables? Why is the hell should Apple have to offer screen sharing or AI to Android devices? EU legislators have lost their minds. Companies are now required to build products for competitors? The product Apple is offering the "Walled Garden" is the product I want to buy.

  • An Apple Vision Pro successor may need to be tethered to an iPhone or Mac

Tethering it to the iPhones makes perfect sense.

  • Tim Cook spills the beans on Apple Intelligence's use of OpenAI, and AI hallucinations

I feel the limiting of Apple Intelligence to iPhone 15 Pro and above is a temporary thing.

I think Apple have realised that getting people used to uploading data to Apple’s servers again is something people need to get used to and they’re using iPhone 15 Pro users to do that. Eventually it will be Apple server only tech for older phones and on device for every new phone from next year.

What I found interesting is that the servers Apple are using are their own. I suspect that’s because there’s now ridiculous power in their own machines now but also because the hardware security features and dedicated neural processors are the only way they could make it work safely.

This is super encouraging and I’m all for it. Apple is doing AI correctly as it always has been since iPhoto 09
Uploading user data to Apple servers is called iCloud. That's something most Apple users already do.

  • iOS 18 to debut Apple Passwords app

I'm pretty sure Apple pulling their password manager out of Settings and into a separate app won't come close to giving me the features I use with 1P, but I'll remain hopeful.

For example, having a username, password, website, and password authenticator built-in is a good start, but you need to be able to organize a lot more data for logins, like account numbers, email addresses, names, costs, various dates, and many other settings that I simply don't want to cram in a simple section called Notes.
Apple already has a password manager in Safari which goes beyond Keychain that does many of the things you mentioned. The Password App of course will go further.

SHERLOCKED! For those of us who remember but it was inevitable. Could you imagine having to pay for StuffIT in 2024? A password manager is a logical progression for Apple.  ;)
