  • Apple's first 'Assembled in India' iPhone SE models go on sale in limited run

This is a huge first step in last big market for smartphones.
How so? Indian consumers prefer $100 Android smartphones, not iPhones. Apple can't squeeze blood out of a stone. What's Apple's iPhone sales goal in India? 1%? Combined Android smartphones sales in India will easily top 99%. Apple's huge first step is like stepping into a huge pool of quicksand. Apple made forced concessions and will get nearly nothing out of it. Assuredly, Apple will be the laughingstock of smartphone sales in India and the news media will make sure everyone knows how poorly they're doing.
India middle class is as big as the whole us population, there is money to be made there

Apple only has 15 percent of the market world wide and less than 10% in many markets, doesn't stop them from controlling almost all profits in all those markets.
guess BMW should also just shut down if they can't sell 20% of all cars in a country huh

who the he'll cares if they're market share is 5% if that's 50% of high end market sales 2 billion in profits

that the average asp is low is irrelevant to apple, just like its irrelevant that android phones are less than 200 bucks. That's not their segment

  • Apple acquires "dark data" specialist Lattice Data for $200M

Dark data, taking an extreme example is like a company collecting skin samples for decades (incidentally) and suddenly finding extra worth in it because tech/ai/processing speed/whatever now enables you to get more value out of it than the cost it takes to process this..

Lots of what's counted as business analytics these days would have been considered "dark" decades ago.

AI can find correlations, cause and effects, in groups, or solo data to other groups or solo bits of data that would be very hard to surmize from just looking at it (probable that the effort just to find what to look for would be too large to even be profitable before).

  • Metallica's Lars Ulrich to host weekly Beats 1 show on Apple Music

Finally something other than rap and hip hop on Beats 1. :)
Agreed. Perhaps it could be made available to a wider audience via... say, a podcast.

About time decent music got a chance on Apple Music. Rap, Hip Hop and modern so called R&B do not qualify in my eyes.
Chances you are a white guy that doesnt acknowledge that hip hop and rap originate from the same black music that spawned rock n roll and jazz: 100%.
Yeah. 90% of 20th and 21th century American popular music is based on "black music", blacks were seen as edgy, outside the norm and "free" from the constraints of normal society (Kerouac in "On the Road" does that a lot, White guy visits "The Blacks" ). So, any white who wanted to counter-culture in some way, slummed in out, importing the "blackness" and inherent edginess in their bland safe and comfortable life. The kind of malaise towards comfort that can only come from being comfortable and eating well... This is still sort of racist cause of the weird distorted view of blacks in America this conveys and the fact this looks a lot like cultural anthropology (a Nanook of the north transposed to the south). When imported/adapted, the music was often debased... But, sometimes like in the case of rock and rock, the mixing gave great results.

  • Analyst speculates Apple's OLED 'iPhone 8' could ditch embedded fingerprint sensor

They're not ditching the sensor and not putting in the back this year.... This is pure shit.

  • New Apple 9.7-inch iPad aimed squarely at iPad 2 owners looking to affordably upgrade

While some users of iPad 2 are hanging on, it's the battery that will kick them off in the end.
I have an iPad 2, and it was still very usable apart from a few websites (notably eBay) giving me trouble,  but then a couple of months ago I made the mistake of downloading the latest OS (I think I had stopped at 6), and since then I have found it basically unusable for anything I want to do (mostly Internet browsing). The new OS also made the battery last nowhere near as long, and I haven't really gotten used to the idea that suddenly it has to be recharged much more frequently even though I'm almost never using it. It's definitely not the fault of the battery, it's the OS. I guess you just need a lot more power with this OS, so you could make the argument that it's the battery, but not because it's old--it's because the OS isn't suited to the hardware.
Did you go up to 9.3.5? the early versions of 9 were terrible on the Ipad 2, the later ones are not as bad.
If you want to upgrade to a new version, always read the reviews for the device you have first, then if it is mostly OK, upgrade  say on day 3 , try it extensively for the next few days and then reinstall the old one that is still signed if you don't like it.  That way you won't ever have some problem with upgrading the OS and making the device slow as sludge.
If you wait too long to upgrade, then you can't go back.
