  • Apple's Mac Pro 'cheese grater' is 19 years old, and is the best Mac ever made

Yeah, changing the CPUs on an old Mac Pro a bitch. I think I got as many skinned knuckles doing that project as I did working on my old Volkswagen.

  • Autodesk dropping support for Alias and VRED in macOS Mojave over OpenGL deprecation

Complaining is futile. Accept what they offer or go elsewhere.
But there is no elsewhere to go. If you want to be in show business you have to go to Hollywood. If you want to be in advertising, you need to go to New York. If you want to be in architecture/mechanical engineering you go with Autodesk in order to be compatible with your industry peers. Mac enthusiasts sometimes pay a price for their platform preference. You have to decide if you want to be a professional architect/engineer or do you want to be Mac exclusive, because the two are for the most part mutually exclusive. Sure you can struggle along as a Mac loner in a Windows centric industry but is that what you really want to do? Even with AutoCad 2018 for Mac it was missing several features and toolsets which were available only on Windows due to underlying Windows only technologies that have no equivalent in MacOS. Forget about Autodesk not supporting Mac in AutoCad 2019. They barely supported it in AutoCad 2018.

Autodesk is a Windows centric company although they are interested in iOS ports of various applications for field work but the functionally is very limited for now. Their official position is that they will release new versions of the desktop MacOS applications when Apple delivers appropriate hardware for implementation. Historically there are so many third party plugins using Windows based architecture that will never be available for MacOS, it makes it practically unwise to base your business on the MacOS versions of AutoCad. When an associate sends you a file and all you see is a bounding box for a significant aspect of a design you have instant fail.

Maya, on the other hand, may be more cross platform compatible than AutoCad.

  • Hands On: Designing websites with Sparkle, the spiritual successor to iWeb

WYSIWYG website builder apps have always been crap and probably always will be, especially now since modern websites commonly use things like include files, scripting environments such as PHP, Javascript frameworks, database connectivity, responsive design and remapped directories. Hell, most of those types of applications can't even build a custom form or validate it and also leave mailto: contact information in the clear for every screen scrapping scammer to add you to their spam list.

  • Maxed out 2018 15-inch MacBook Pro at $6699 isn't Apple's most expensive laptop ever

I am more than happy to spend $5k+ on a laptop, especially now that we have 6 cores, 32GB of ram, 4TB ssd's, and eGPU support. However, being 2018, I can't believe that it doesn't have a 4K display.
A 4K display means absolutely **nothing** on any portable device. 4K is a technology (spec) that is meant to be shown on very large displays, not a computing device. This is an affectation for people to demand/want 4K resolution if what they actually mean are simply more pixels. No one is going to watch a movie in 4K on their laptop and believe it was precisely the same experience as seeing that projected properly on a much wider canvas.

If anything, one still can't believe that the display isn't more edge-to-edge. This continues to make the entire MacBook line still appear dated.
Yeah the screen is too small to take advantage of 4K or 5K as in my iMac. Hollywood producers on location might like the idea but really the concept of editing with a 4K or 5K screen is so you can see it as it will display on a home theater, but on a MBP 15 you are not going to be able to properly evaluate a professional 4K video because the screen is just too small.
