  • OWC ships second-gen ThunderBlade SSD supporting Thunderbolt 3 daisy chains

On the OWC webpage it says this is compatible with Mac and Windows but the rear view image shows two Thunderbolt ports, that's it. I haven't seen many Windows machines with Thunderbolt capability. I guess Dell makes a couple laptops and one from HP that have Thunderbolt 3. None of them have very good ratings though. I would have thought that they might have included USB-C ports as well. Their OWC SoftRaid software is Mac only. I guess they support Windows Storage Spaces which I have read is pretty reliable and fast.

Anyway I need to unsubscribe from OWC email spamming. I never signed up for automatic emails although I did buy some stuff from them and provided my email. Some guy named Larry emails me several times per week. It is just easier to delete them than to open it and find the unsubscribe link.

  • Future locked iPhones could open camera app automatically when held up to take a photo

Today on lock screen when you swipe left Camera app comes up but than when you swipe right than it doesn't go back to whatever previous screen. Fix this first.
The automatic camera activation seems pretty unnecessary since as you mention swiping left from the lock screen to get to the camera is probably more instantaneous anyway. I hope they don't take that feature away because you don't always hold your phone up for photos. I take pictures of things on my desk like documents, etc where the camera is facing down.

Swiping right to return to the lock screen seems unnecessary to me as I just click the home button which I think is even less effort than swiping right. Not sure how it works on the newer phones sans home button.

  • Apple in talks to put Apple Watch into the hands of Medicare users

We got my mom (now 84) an iPhone several years ago because it was so much easier to use than her flip phone. At least she can read a text message, but she has trouble responding to one and will routinely do things like send an e-mail with the entire message in the subject line and think it’s a text message. I seriously doubt she could figure out an Apple Watch, no matter how easy it is. My dad on the other hand has no problems with his iphone. I don’t know what the numbers are, but in that age group, there is a significant number of people more like my mom.
There are a lot of "baby boomers" who have recently turned 65 or getting close to that age. Many of them have very robust lifestyles and are comfortable with technology. Your mom is of the previous generation.

My problem with the Apple Watch is that I need to use my reading glasses to see the small text. I can't do that while driving because the reading glasses only focus for a close distance - not suitable while driving or even walking around for that matter. I'm thinking of getting RK but I've read it doesn't remain effective past a few years.

  • Rumor: Apple developing seventh-generation iPod touch, mulling USB-C for next iPhone

Physical cables are going to be necessary for some time yet.  USB C would be more convenient as I could consolidate cables and adapters down.
I think quite a few people would like to still use the SD card reader with their iPhone. I don't usually use a lot of battery and don't religiously charge my phone overnight. Once and a while I do get a low battery, especially if I'm doing a long FaceTime over cellular. It is nice to have a small iPhone charger handy when away from home instead of carrying a big wireless charging pad in my briefcase. With a cable you can use the phone while charging. Not so much with the wireless charger.

  • Tim Cook says Apple's earnings power is 'probably under-appreciated' in CNBC 'Mad Money' i...

Apple earning power may be under appreciated but ceasing the quarterly reporting of unit sales for iPhones, iPads and Macs can't be helping create a better understanding of the Apple ecosystem. They have never reported Apple Watch sales, but it looks to me that they must be doing pretty well. At first I would rarely see one in the wild but now it seems that every cashier and bus boy is wearing one, not to mention many celebrities and professionals.
