iMac could have been made without a chin, proves new hack
I figured out the easy way to get a chinless iMac: make the chin a "forehead." Buy an iMac with a VESA mount, put it on a monitor arm, turn the screen upside down, and use a screen utility to rotate the displayed contents 180 degrees. The only downside is you get the Apple logo upside down at the top. But with a monitor arm, you can bring the screen much closer to the desktop, which is what I really want. I dislike the fixed height of the stand on iMacs, I'd like it to go lower sometimes. -

Rare Apple I fetches $471,000 at Christie's auction
I was particularly intrigued by the SWTPC PR-40 printer, I saw a demo for one at a local Homebrew Computer Club, probably around 1976. It was a unique thermal printer, because it used aluminized thermal paper. The printhead electrodes made contact with the metallized surface and ran a small electric charge through the paper to make the black marks. It is probably impossible to obtain that paper today (or any time in the last 30 years). -
Apple posts three new tutorial videos covering iPhone photography
Nice leveling grid trick, I didn't know there was a grid.
A similar iOS photo trick: remember the Level, a secondary function of Compass.app. I put my iPhone on the table to make sure it's level, then I put it on a tripod & extension arm, then make sure the iPhone is level too. Perfect for camera stand work.
Bonus tip: if you can't get the table level, leave the iPhone flat on the table, tap the level and lock it to zero, then mount the iPhone and level it to that lock.
