  • UK site The Guardian drops Apple News in bid to boost ad & subscription revenues

I've given up on the Apple News app once again. It's impossible to get it to work the way you want/need it to. Why do I have to manually block all (dozens and dozens) news sources instead of just seeing the ones I have favoured?

The Guardian apps are great; they really look good and work well. And their subscription prices are reasonable. However the writing is really bad.  There seems to be a personal agenda behind every journalist and every article reads like an opinion piece. Every story is one-sided, exaggerated, sensationalistic or just angry.

  • Apple's 'iPhone 8' to replace Touch ID home button with 'function area,' start at $1,000

I've been wishing for this for years, ever since the 4. I always thought the home button ate up way too much space.

But replacing it with a dead (ie: no active screen) function area makes no sense. They might as well keep the physical button.

It would be great if they could just move the home button to the side and make the phone smaller but with the same size screen.

  • Apple confirms reports of iTunes music deletion issue, 'safeguards' coming next week

The problem I had with local files is that, after you let Apple Music take over, when you switch it off, all local files (whether you own them or not) are unplayable if Apple Music found the same file in their streaming library previously.

So you need to make copies of all music you own before you sign onto Apple Music, and if you finish your subscription you need to delete everything and then re-import from your backup.  But how would anyone know that? (And I'm not talking about backing up your data regularly). Who would anticipate Apple Music would replace the songs you bought with copies which will only play with a valid Apple Music subscription??

When I reported this to Apple last September, they said it's not a bug; it is supposed to work like that.
