  • Hands on with HomePod & HomePod mini's new features in software update 17

I’ve had a ticket opened with Apple for the last two weeks. My HomePods are sending and downloading tons of data since iOS 17. Like 2-3GB every 2 hours for each HomePod.
My home internet use reached 4TB for September and they only updated on the 22nd. This makes them unresponsive since they are so busy sending so much data. I have 19 HomePods and I had to unplug the ones not in use just to use the ones in my bedroom

Siri-HomeKit has been a dumpster fire for our family since inception. Since iOS 17, our Siri capable devices are erroneously waking more often than ever before, even though we've not removed the requirement for "Hey". I can issue a command in the kitchen, and hear the response in the garage, 50 feet away on the other side of a closed door. I can ask Siri what time it is and get "Sorry, I'm having trouble connecting to the Internet". Two seconds later, I can ask for tomorrow's weather, and get it.

I understand that distributed databases are difficult to manage, but Apple should have understood that too and implemented a layer of checks to prevent Siri from looking like an idiot.

  • New HomePod vs 2018 HomePod - compared

I just don’t understand why they went from AC to N. That’s a step backwards. They could’ve just left it with AC. Wi-Fi 6 is more efficient in crowded environments so that would’ve been nice.

Sometimes I really don't understand Apple decisions. WiFi 7 is just around the corner, with the draft standard having been written two years ago, but the 2023 Home Pod takes us back to WiFi 4 (or "n") that debuted in 2009? I get that it doesn't need the speed of WiFi 6, but there are far fewer routers and devices currently using 6, which becomes a helpful factor when you live in an apartment building and 40-something networks other than your own come up under wifi. How much extra could wifi 6 support have cost Apple? Similarly, why not support the latest Bluetooth standard, 5.3, in a newly released speaker, instead of 5.0 from 7 years ago?

  • New iPad requires USB-C Apple Pencil adapter for pairing & charging

That image doesn't make sense. Doesn't it need to have a USBC male side to slot into the female side of an iPad? The other side is Lightning to stick a 1st gen Pencil in.
You are right. You’ll probably need a USB C cable to go between this dongle and the iPad

I feel like the song is more a burn on Android than Apple 🤷🏽‍♂️
