  • Editorial: Apple's Q319 earnings destroy a mountain of fake data and false reporting

This article is pure hyperbole. It was a good quarter in spite of iPhone which is now less than 50% of Apple’s quarterly revenues. Sure Wall Street loves services revenue but would anybody here really call services a great product from Apple? Tim gave no color or numbers on Apple News+ which leads one to believe it’s not doing that great. I’m not surprised. The News app isn’t that great and bolting on magazines and a few newspapers for $10/mo didn’t make it better. Honestly I think the only place where people need to eat crow is with the Watch which has become a big hit. 75% of sales this quarter were to new Watch owners. That’s fantastic.

if you want good analysis of the quarter https://sixcolors.com/ is a good resource.

  • Apple earns $53.8B in revenue in record-setting third quarter

Apple Watch doing very well. Improvements in China too.

  • Jimmy Iovine spent excessively as Apple Music head, current service growth slowing, report...

And I’ll go on record again saying I think the Beats acquisition was dumb. Beats headphones are a blip on Apple’s financials and they got nothing out of Iovine, Dre or Reznor (none of whom are even working at Apple now). The existing iTunes team could have set up Apple Music and probably done a better job than the Beats team.

  • Apple's COO Jeff Williams is unsurprisingly more like Cook than Jobs

That’s what I’ve been trying to say.

Keep the dude out of the design labs please. He isn’t fixing any morale issues. He’s making it worse.

And no he wont be the next ceo. He’d be the next John sculley.
Who Jeff Williams? How would you know? Do you know people inside the company telling you so? Because any time Jeff Williams is on stage he gets huge applause. My impression is he and Craig Federighi are very well liked in the company. Even this Bloomberg piece doesn’t say anything about Williams not being liked in the company. It’s mostly a weak story padded by the same old he’s an operations guy like Cook tripe.

Apple must not talk itself into believing that it cannot gain more market share. It must act aggressively, speed up the cycle, and push more variety of devices, i.e., do what they have done to the iPad line up to the iPhone line up.
Blah, blah, blah, yada, yada, yada. The Macintosh has never had more than a 10% share of the worldwide market and it has been a success for Apple all these years. Discerning customers see the value and TCO of Apple products and are very willing to pay the mythical Apple Tax. When has Apple EVER had a dominating share of ANY market? They have literally created or boosted markets out of thin air (personal computers, portable music players, smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, etc) only to see them dominated by cheap knock-offs and lookalikes. Through it all Apple has remained true to its mission statement to provide well designed, reliable, usable products that customers like to use. Again, tech blog forums like AI are filled with comments from a market segment that doesn’t value design, only cares about specs, and wants everything cheap.
Well said lkrupp. Appreciate your insight as always. It’s the same stuff every year Android phones is outselling Apple. Apple is losing market share. Apple remains focused on the core mission. Mistakes made yes but mission focused.
Except the core mission now seems to be extracting more money out of existing customers since hardware growth is stagnant. Which might be one reason why Jony Ive thought now was a good time to leave. The Apple of the future seems to be how can we get someone to spend $10 a month on x service.
