  • Apple burns early iPad Pro adopters, loyal customers with Magic Keyboard incompatibility

Sorry but I don’t think a person can reasonably expect a fitment-specific accessory designed to for generation A to also fit generation B.  Doesn’t matter how expensive it is.

When I buy a case for an iPhone it’s with the understanding that it’s (likely) only going to 100% fit the iPhone I’m buying.
That’s a case. They don’t usually cost hundreds of dollars.
The Magic Keyboard for the iPad is a case also.  It also happens to come with a nice, backlit keyboard, and a touch pad.  That's why it costs hundreds of dollars.
And poorly designed since it had to be redesigned only one year after being introduced.

  • 2020 iPad Pro lacks Apple's U1 chip, report says

The iPad Pro saw no update last year, so I understand that Apple was anxious to release an update.

What I don't understand is why they would release one now, if they plan to release another later this year with the UWB chip, mini-LED backlighting and an A13/ A14 variant processor.

If AirTags rely on the UWB for more accuracy, it seems strange to release a new iPad Pro without it. I could understand if this was just an iPad Air or iPad, but it is not.

I really wonder what the rush was to get it out of the door.

Jason Snell thinks it’s because this new magic keyboard was ready and Apple didn’t want to wait until the fall or spring 2021 to release it. Of course it works with the 2018 iPad Pro too but the camera cutout is different. Some are comparing this to the iPad 3/4 situation but I don’t think it’s the same. The iPad 3 was not a good product. The hardware inside couldn’t really support the Retina display. The iPad 4 fixed that. In this case there don’t appear to be any hardware issues with this device. Maybe they just wanted a machine with lidar that developers could get their hands on before the new iPhones ship this fall.

  • Apple's loosening of App Store fees lets Amazon enable purchases, rentals in Prime Video a...

Apple wants regulators off its back. I suspect Spotify and Netflix will get this treatment next.

Since Apple allows “reader “apps whats the difference between apps not offering IAP and being able to offer IAP using their own payment system? The fact that Netflix and Spotify removed IAP indicates they didn’t consider it detrimental to their business. I doubt there’s a large number of people not subscribing to those services because they don’t offer IAP. People just sign up on the web. Being able to do it in-app will be more convenient. I hope Apple does this for Kindle too.

  • Wallet app hints at imminent Apple Card iPhone installment plan launch

First:   Good job on a great plan getting your debt/interest payments under control.   Too many people never figure out what you figured out and then have had the discipline to stick to...

There are essentially two ways to make automatic payments:   Either have your bank send a check every month (it's how I do my monthly bills) or have the company charge your credit card --- so I doubt if they would care what kind of card it is...
    *   Well, there is a third way, have the company do an ACH transaction to pull it from your checking account.   But that way sucks for a whole lot of different reasons.  In fact, i hate that that's how Goldman insists on being paid for my Apple Card.  I almost cancelled it for that reason.
Thx for the reply, i have auto payments with my Amex card now. What I’m wondering is if I can get 3% cash back if I switch to my Apple Card, as that is what the article is about, or if it’ll just post as a typical CC charge @ 1%?
Ill txt costumer service tomorrow and see what they say, will try and update this if I can remember to!
If you switch your card for monthly iPhone payments to Apple Card you will get the 3% cash back.

  • Apple's use of Location Services data tied to UWB management & federal guidelines

How to turn a mole hill into a mountain.
Step 1.  Implement a function.  Tell no on about it.
Step 2.  Have it discovered by someone outside the organization.
Step 3.  Retroactively explain, then offer an opt out.

Opt out after the fact gives the impression that "we're only offering an opt out because someone found out what we're doing".  Unnecessary self infliction.

Apple stop punching yourself in the nuts.  The optics are always worse when "caught" doing something.  That vaunted Marketing department could have easily preemptively spun this as a security and safety bullet point  of the 11 series and 100% we would have had multiple articles extolling the virtues of UWB geofencing.  Not a negative peep would have been heard.
It seems to me it’s others turning a mole hill into a mountain. It’s almost like tech media and security researchers want people to be in a constant state of panic or freakout.  It’s like when the news came out that Google was working with a big hospital system on analytics. Big freak out in tech media even though the number of people at Google working on this project was small and everything was HIPPA compliant.
