    I disagree with this placement.

    Huawei is largely accepted as the first mainstream manufacturer to make photographic use of dual cameras (months ahead of Apple  - 'portrait' mode included) and is far from 'out of its depth'. In either of the interpretations.

    I would say that no Huawei dual camera phone has been out of its depth at any point in time.

    Does Huawei make any use of depth imaging? That's what was being communicated. According to its marketing, it uses two identical camera sensors with the same lens, one supposedly capturing color and the other luminance. "Out of depth" was an obvious allusion to the subject of the article.

    the tech media has been cheering on Android and vilifying Apple for the last ten years. Android has never been so far behind and Apple keeps making more money than all Android licensees put together by a huge margin. The verge and all don't seem to be very effective in propagating their world view in a consequential fashion.

    From the end of the Digitimes report: "Nevertheless, it would take a longer time for smartphone vendors to establish the relevant application ecosystem, involving firmware, software and apps, needed to support the performance of 3D sensing modules than to support the function of fingerprint recognition or touch control. This will constitute the largest barrier to the incorporation of 3D sensors into smartphones, the sources continued."
