I don’t understand what the rationale for a case like this would be - I thought the Apple changes are explicitly made opt-in or opt-out?

The tiny amount of stuff I have seen on Apple TV + seems to be very high quality, it's just not aimed at me - and that's fine. Apple is dumping a ton of money into film production, creating and sustaining jobs in the industry which is great, I genuinely wish them well.

I wish I had a better-formed view of the nature of the entertainment on it, that could certainly be my fault for not keeping up with it. I won't be subbing once my seemingly endless free period ends but I like that it's an option for some.

Only demographic I can think of are perhaps design professionals (probably not even game dev professionals as another commenter noted). They seem to be off the rails with AR/VR. 

...Apple won't make an iPad Mini Pro because they know that's what the bulk of users want and it would dent profits. What happened to "the customer is always right"? It's always about $$$$ with Apple.
