  • How Apple's $1 billion Intel modem purchase happened

Part of these efforts included hiring luminaries in the modem world, including former Intel executive Umashankar Thyagarajan, an engineer thought to have played a key role in the development of Intel's XMM 8160 5G modem.

Understanding that Mr. Thyagarajan is an excellent "get" for Apple, maybe listing the XMM 8160 modem as a highlight of his talents isn't the best way to go.  I mean the failure of development on the XMM 8160 is, what some say, the reason Apple settled with Qualcomm, Intel left the mobile chip business, and Apple is buying their mobile shop.  It's probably the last thing I'd want mentioned on my list of accomplishments.

2019- mLED possibly coming to Apple Watch in 2020 - this article.

Erbody just guessin'.  Eventually someone will be right... unless mLED turns out to be not viable like AirPower or mass production of sapphire glass screens.  My personal guess is this will be true mid 2022-2023 for the Apple Watch.  Late 2021-Early 2022 for Oppo, Xiaomi, or another of the Chinese brands.  Early 2022-2023 for Samsung.  Look at that... I am an analyst.

    Excellent post!

Somewhat relatedly.... if the stories about the AR glasses being delayed are true, I wonder if it's because of delays with mLED. I'm guessing the critical enabling technologies of AR Glasses are (1) SOC fabrication technology, (2) mLED, and (3?) solid state battery.

TSMC is doing their part -- sounds like 5nm is on target. So it's the other two that represent the big unknowns.

it makes sense, though, that the watch would be the proving ground for mLED and solid state battery. The year we see an Apple watch with those technologies is possibly the year before we see AR glasses.
SOC and battery may be hindrances for the AR glasses but I don't think mLED is a hindrance.  AR glasses will require transparency to see the 'R' in AR - augmented reality.  Afaik, an mLED panel wouldn't be transparent or even translucent.  Ironically, OLED is just starting to demonstrate viable commercial applications for transparent screens.  VR though, is a field that could definitely benefit from the attributes of mLED screen tech.  AR, not so much.

  • YouTuber reveals 'iPhone 11' models, claims few changes

They are pushed to the side of the phone to make room for the battery in the center and right-side.
They could still center the camera module with Apple's L-shaped battery because the part of the battery that covers the center of the phone is in the bottom portion of the casing. More than that, Apple is famous for their ability to design the internals of their devices.  I have no doubt Apple could place that camera module wherever they want on that phone and make it work.

Personally, I think Apple would keep the module in the upper left corner because of tradition.  It's always been in the upper left corner.  I hope these renders and mockups are wrong, because that off center squircle is disconcerting and just plain ugly.
I presume the wireless charging coil currently in the dead center could be an issue with centering the new cameras.
Mate 20 Pro has a wireless charging coil centered in it.  It even functions as a reverse wireless charger for other devices.  Camera module centered.  Notch on front.  4200 mAh giant battery.  As I said earlier.  I think (if it does happen) it's because of tradition.  It's always been in the left corner.

Two more months of pearl clutching by concern trolls and then we get actual reviews of the iPhone's triple camera system.

    I'm prescient.

Once the reviews are out, no one will give a fuck about the "look" of the camera bump.

I think most forum members here have always cared about how their phones look. They won't suddenly "not care".

That also doesn't mean they won't buy a new iPhone anyway whether they think it looks great, good, average, or bad. Looks aren't the only selling point, just one of them.
“No one” meaning the millions of people in the market for a new iPhone, not the same 5-10 negative-Apple-Nancy’s who come to offer their opinions on AI.

The alleged new bump looks to be the same size as the GoPro lens. No one cares about those either. ;)

Though didn’t the Pixel 4 Leak already confirm someone has stolen the alleged iPhone 11 design?
The Pixel 4's design isn't stolen from Apple.  Both the Pixel 4 and the alleged iPhone 11 were "inspired" by Huawei's design from last year's Mate Pro 20.  MKBHD even shows one in comparison in the video above.  That camera module is ugly.  Will it keep people from buying the phone?  No, but it's still ugly.  No one, not even the members of the ADF have said otherwise.
