Goldman Sachs exec says winning customer loyalty with Apple Card more important than profitability

Anyone believing that statement is either stupid, naive, stupidly naive, or naively stupid.  Many Apple fans seem to be blinded by Apple's involvement.  Apple isn't the bank.  Goldman is.   Apple isn't going to be running point on any issues that may arise.  Goldman is.  People getting this card are not entering a financial relationship with Apple.  Bears repeating.  People getting this card are not entering a financial relationship with Apple.  They will be entering a financial relationship with Goldman Sachs.  Yes, that Goldman Sachs.  

My personal hope is that the high profile visibility of the relationship with Apple will curb Goldman's tendencies toward being Goldman.  But when they come with obvious "we care" marketing... yeah, no.  They'd be much more believable saying they found a way to balance profitability with customer facing benefits like cash back savings, privacy, financial mgmt tools.  Basically they should let Apple market this and shut the hell up.  Apple is the relationship company and from a sample of the comments in this thread, some people already believe that's who they'll have the relationship with in the first place.

It's not really that funny considering that: The group interviewed 19,658 people between April 2018 and March 2019 to generate this year's results.  I think we can be fairly certain phones like the S10, XR, XS/Max, Pixel 3a will be on next year's survey.  It looks like the survey runs a year behind current models.  To me that seems more likely than the phones being crappier than you thought they were.

This is nice to have as an additional option, but it's not really going to change much in my opinion.  People who sign in with FB, Twitter and such are probably going to continue to sign in with those 3rd party tie ins.  They're typically invested in those social media environments.  Unless Apple makes it's sign-in mandatory for users, those same people are most likely going to "stay connected".  Privacy really isn't their primary concern.  Remember, this is only mandatory for devs with 3rd party sign-in attached to their apps.  It's not for us civilians.

The price seems reasonably reasonable.  I was expecting a starting price closer to $10K.  I think the engineers were told build a machine as powerful as a goddamn M1 Abrams that can drive as fast as an Agera RS and do it as quietly as a Model X... with better panel gaps. 

I think they did.  I think Apple hit it out of the park.

Multi-user support and support for XB1 and PS4 controllers... well hot damn.  That's fantastic.
