Editorial: The new Mac Pro is overkill for nearly everybody, and it hit Apple's own target...
I was a user of the Mac IIfx, $9,000 and $12,000, and at the time it was an incredible machine. I think a high end RasterOps video card at the time was between $6,000 and $10,000. This is what was needed to work on complex Photoshop images at a decent pace. That is what pro meant back then no one dreamed of the audio and video editing of today. Hey Apple that is one killer piece of hardware. -
Macintosh launched on Jan 24, 1984 and changed the world -- eventually
I bought a Mac 128 and ImageWriter in my last year of high school. I had no complaints at all, it got me through English that year and was a great help with many assignments. It was a vast improvement over the VIC 20s and Commodore 64s my friends had and the Commodore Pets my school had. Or the Unisys ICONs that they got before I left school, you can look that one up on Wikipedia. -

I am no Mac Mini enthusiast or buyer, but I can relate to the user’s arguments of a reasonably cost effective Mac for those who aren’t seeking portability and who already own a monitor, keyboard etc. For Apple to slap them with such high prices is not going to go well. There should’ve been a well configured option for $499, then charge whatever for the pro. They sure know how to pull off such options for the iPad.
