  • Apple introduces smart battery optimization in iOS 13 to combat battery aging

I think it means that e.g if you typically charge your iPhone at night, that it will hold off charging to full capacity until the morning, so that it doesn't have to be long in a state where battery is full but not being used much..

  • Apple's macOS Catalina is first to require app notarization by default

I hope there’s a way to manually override it.  I don’t want Apple deciding what I can or cannot run on my Mac.
The article explains that notarization means that if developer X makes an app that you want to install, that your Mac will verify that the app you are installing is indeed from developer X..

So, your reaction to that is 'I hope I can override it'... i.o.w. you want to be able to install an app that pretends it is from developer X but in fact isn't?  Yeah, I can definitely see how that would be useful..

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • Apple hatched years-long plan to reduce royalty payments to Qualcomm, documents reveal

How is the other poster being illogical? They are just pointing out that Apple charges what the market can bear the same way that Qualcomm does.
You and I have a choice of smartphones, so we pay the price we are willing to pay..

Qcom being the only supplier, Apple clearly is not in the same position..

  • The secret of Apple's success in selling premium tech as an affordable luxury

If you had bad experiences with your "Wintel hardware", buying crappy (likely mass-produced) systems was the cause. My home-built PC is almost 10 years old and has no hardware issues at all.
Hardly a ringing endorsement for Wintel.. I would not even know where to start to make my own machine and avoid ending up with crapware.. And pretty sure I am not alone in that regard..

You are basically proving Dan's point that if you want the most-balanced computer that fits in your budget that -- unless you are a die-hard hands-on PC hobbyist -- that you have to buy Apple, because their focus is on making you satisfied (and come back for more), so they make the tough hardware and trade-off decisions for you, so you can get the best bang for the buck..

  • What iOS 12 'critical alerts' are, and how to turn them on

But is there a way to turn off this new Do Not Disturb notification? Hoping it's hidden somewhere and I missed it cause I do not ned a reminder that I just turned on Do not disturb.
The reminder is not for letting you know that you turned it on (which you obviously are aware of), but for letting you know it is still on (which after many hours you might *not* be aware of anymore).
That iPhone X before iOS12 did not have a visible indicator that DND was on, was terribly annoying.. I missed a great deal of phone calls and timely messages just because I forgot that it was on..
Besides, you can swipe the notification away like all others..
