  • Facebook changes the one thing it doesn't need to, is now called 'Meta'

    It's a smart name change.

I've got a buddy over there, he says that it’s common knowledge that "facebook.com" is a legacy product, of interest mostly to racist grandpas. The bulk of their business and eyeballs is Whatsapp and Instagram and that's not even recent.

Calling the company Facebook today is almost like calling Apple "Mac" or "the Mac company."

That said, I sincerely hope their aspirations fail, badly.

  • macOS Monterey review: A compelling refinement of Big Sur

I've been on the beta since sometime last summer. I think this is one of the best releases in the past five years or so.

Almost has a "snow" release feel, except that there really are a substantial number of new features. Regardless, the stability is rock-solid.

It's worth mentioning that Apple is listening to their users. They took a big swing with the Safari UI changes; beta users hated it, Apple walked back on them. Ditto for little things like the disappearing "app proxy icons" — Apple went ahead with their change, but introduced a System Preferences setting to keep them visible. Exactly as it should be.

Normally I tell my family to wait until the "point-one" release of any macOS before upgrading, but this cake is cooked and ready.

The 11th-gen i9 at $2449.99 (still cheaper) is a far better comparison....
And tack on the near-retina class display and you're at $2650, fifty bucks more expensive and an even better comparison

The three people who wanted these legacy ports are becoming more disappointed every day.
You need to look up the definition of legacy.

From the sounds of things this was a perfectly logical decision. Apple essentially took the bandwidth of a single TB4 port and divided it between an HDMI port and an SD slot… Like most logical decisions, the ideologues are deeply offended by it because, God forbid someone might have different needs than they do.
So they took a port that was great for everyone, and replaced it with a couple ports that are good for some people. That's not a logical decision, so who's the idealogue?
